"The best engineering company I’ve ever worked with, without question. They have completed both civil and structural design services for me on several projects, and every single one has been handled with a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and technical expertise. Their team brings a tremendous amount of real world experience to the table and it shows in the quality of their work and the practicality of their solutions. They are responsive, easy to work with, and always willing to take the time to explain things clearly and work through challenges as they come up. Mr. Marques Hall is an outstanding engineer and a true professional. His knowledge, responsiveness, and problem solving ability have made a big difference on multiple projects. I will absolutely continue to use them for future projects and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, high quality civil and structural engineering services."

"We had an exceptional experience with Emily Beyer. I had read her thorough inspection report on another property and requested her for a property we are buying. She is extremely thorough, professional, and a very good communicator. I strongly recommend Emily and Axelrad & Associates."

"I can’t recommend Kennon Crockett, P.E. enough. He’s been an incredible help through a really stressful situation with my home’s foundation and a city-side sewer line issue. From the start, he was thorough, professional, and honest — helping me avoid getting taken advantage of by a plumbing company and instead understand the real cause. He prepared a detailed, sealed inspection report and has continued to guide me step-by-step on how to get the city involved for proper repairs. He’s also been consistently communicative and genuinely invested in helping homeowners. I’ve already recommended him to coworkers and friends — and funny enough, my dad had him help years ago after Hurricane Ida which won me brownie points once he heard Crockett. That says a lot. If you want an engineer who’s knowledgeable, ethical, and truly cares about his clients, Kennon is your guy."

"had work done on my mothers property and now the pillars are failing. I have to call 4 days a day for a week just to get someone to come out. then it took me 4 more weeks to get on a day for the repairs. Well after calling again 4 times the day of the repairs only to have a no call no show and I missed out of pay and work for that day to still see a huge crack along side of the wall where the pillars were placed. Be advised to STAY AWAY from this company"

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WE SPECIALIZE IN INSURANCE RECOVERY <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\n\nWe are LA State Licensed General Contractors (both residential & commercial) as well as a design/build consultant firm. What this means for our customers is that the LA State Licensing Board of Contractors (LASLBC) has done the regulation leg work that every home/business owner should do but sometimes simply over looks or just doesn’t know what questions to ask a contractor. The LASLBC regulates those of us with licenses by making us place them as certificate holders of our insurance. All certificate holders are sent notices when a company is late on a payment or is dropped by their insurance carrier. If we are dropped, we lose our license. The LASLBC requires we attend so many hours of pre-approved/certified continuing education every year along with our annual license renewal. Failure to comply with these strict guidelines results in rejection of the applicant’s license renewal. The LASLBC also checks references before issuing a license. Please feel free to call the LASLBC in Baton Rouge and ask about our standing in any of the above areas. They can be reached at 225.765.2301 or on line at http://www.lslbc.louisiana.gov/\n\n Gandolfi & Associates, Inc. license are as follows:\n\n Louisiana State Contractors Residential License # 86119\n\n Louisiana State Contractors Commercial License # 40728\n\n The largest and most influential trade organization in the building industry, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has worked for nearly 50 years to strengthen the professionalism of its members. We are a long standing active member of the NHBA (National Home Builders’ Association) and our local chapter. "Excellent. The 100-year old home consists of an upper unit and a lower unit. Each unit has its own challenges. Buddy did the inspection and we were very pleased with his thoroughness and attention to detail. He is very easy to work with and has a great deal of knowledge about the quirks of older homes. We learned a lot about the house from him. Highest recommendation."

FAQs for engineer structural projects in New Orleans, LA

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
