"I had a fantastic experience with Dan from Basement Gurus! He helped install a French drain in my basement crawl space, and I couldnâ  t be happier with the results. Not only did he address the drainage issue, but he also sealed off openings under my wood deck that were allowing raccoons to get in. Dan was professional, knowledgeable, and kept me informed throughout the process. Highly recommend Basement Gurus for any basement needs!"

"The employees that arrived to do the work were good workers. They were either unaware of the contracted work or mislead. They were not going to install the J Channel per the service agreement, and they had planned to backfill the ditch with the earth they had removed. The contract called for the ditch to be filled to surface with gravel. The installers called the office and explained that a J Channel was agreed on and someone from the office delivered it to satisfy my request. They were going to install the J Channel in segments vs one solid piece across the length of the ditch. I told them the segment seems would allow the water to get thru the J Channel and weep thru our foundation once more. They did the work as I requested but had I not been there or had I been a customer that did not know any better, this job would not have been done correctly or as agreed upon in the contract."

"Our family room is built on a concrete slab foundation. We've had water issues forever. We've had others try to figure out why & make suggestions. We hired a company previously that said they could fix it, helped some but still had some wetness after rains. We made a good decision to have David from Basement Waterproofing Solutions come take a look. He studied, he measured & he figured it out. We still check for wetness after a hard rain, we've done it for 20 years. The room has stayed dry for over a year & we are very thankful to David and his team!"

"Smith's was as knowledgeable as any of the 4 and talked us through the process and with Mrs. Smith assurances of cleaning as they went while jackhammering as well as doing the same process as the other 3 but underbid the others for our 145 linear feet of trench with waffle board, weep holes and covering with cement. They only had to cut 4+ inches off the bottom of my paneling and were able to work aroung a built in book case, sewer pipes, closets and load bearing wall successfully. My wife was very surprised at how there was so little dust left. They covered all our belongings we had moved to the middle of the room and were very careful.Smith's were very careful with installation of the sump pump to the extent they installed the elec. receptacle and buried my sump pump discharge pipe in my yard. Everyone was terrific in their crew and were very cordial as I took pictures and ask questions while they worked. Our job was done very, very well and we have not had any water. We would recommend them highly for waterproofing in finished or unfinished basements where there is a water problem. They cleaned up very well both inside and outside and up our stairs and blocked off doorway to kitchen while they worked. Great Job!!! <br />"

"<p>Our Story Continues 2 years later....Back in 2012(See Review Below), Chad saved us from criminals that call themselves plumbers who tried to take all our wedding money for services that were not needed. We are that couple that got married! No babies yet but we are very happy! So far, we love being married! </p> <p>Story: The mature trees in our front yard have roots that grew into our sewer line. It clogged and backed up into the house again. It was raining sewer water in our basement! Ceiling tiles started falling! I asked my Husband "Oh honey, what are we going to do?!?!" and his quick reply was "Call Chad"! He didn't say call a plumber but told me to find Chad's number and call him. </p> <p>We called Chad at about 9:30am. He was at our house before noon. It was great to see Chad because we TRUST him. Chad is knowledgeable. Chad is professional. Chad is hard working. Chad is punctual. Chad is friendly. Chad is very experienced. Chad is willing to help others and genuinely enjoys helping to fix people's problems.  Chad is everything you would want a contractor or service professional to be. Chad is GREAT at what he does. Plus, Chad is just a nice hard working guy! Even though we worked with him 2 years ago, he remembered us and immediately asked about the wedding. Personalized the customer experience.</p> <p>Chad personalizes the service experience and does not make you feel like just a number/job. His customer service skills are exemplary. I felt like someone he wanted to help and not just an opportunity for him to make money. Plus, he is just an honest and kind person. <strong>We simply will never work with anyone else but Chad.</strong> </p> <p>We requested that he put us on a yearly scheduled sewer pipe clearing to remove any roots. </p> <p>Great Job. Fair Price. Honest. Trustworthy. Professional. Kind. Expert knowledge.  </p> <p>I only wish we could find a bathroom contractor like Chad because I have found that great service professionals, like Chad, are REALLY hard to come by. </p> <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in New Oxford, PA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
