"We are so glad we went with Kirch. We narrowed it down to Kirch and one other builder we liked, but went with Kirch because they could meet our timeline (which the other vendor said they would not be able to meet and didn’t think anyone could). Well, they didn’t just meet our timeline, they beat it by 2 weeks. We had a run of good weather and they got after it. No let up once they started. Very organized. Start early and work hard all day. Communicative throughout entire process. Jaclyn responds to emails immediately. John talks you through everything and follows through on what he says. And the results are fantastic! We love our new deck. Exactly what we wanted and expected. We practically live on our deck May through September, and with this new deck it’s an even better place to hangout and relax with family and friends. So happy with it. Worth every penny. Thank you Kirch!"

"The frame around our leaded glass window was rotting.   Rather than install a new window, Superior was able to save the existing leaded glass window and just install a new storm/screen.  They rebuilt the rotting frame.  Looks beautiful.  Much cheaper than a window replacement and kept the integrity of the house intact.  Nice people. Good work. Good prices.

"I was cleaning out my gutters when I noticed that some were bent which was leading to leaves and anything else getting stuck in them. Also along the back of my house there was a hole causing water to leak out. I made the call on Friday to Watry Homes and as of yesterday they are fixed. It took maybe two hours or so to get the hole covered and to bend the gutter back into shape. I also got a quote for my siding while they were they so that when I am ready I can get both things replaced. I can not say enough about Scott who came out and did a great job of letting me know what was needed and  what I would be looking at in terms of fixing now vs replacing. A lot of times a company will try to just say you need everything new when that may not be the case. Which makes me feel good to now yet again I made a great choice."

"Within days of purchasing the deal, I received the instructions and paper to draw my table templates. The table has 2 drop leaves plus 2 additional leaves that can be inserted in the table. The templates were pretty easy to draw. The finished pads were delivered in a very short time. They fit the table and each of the 4 leaves perfectly and magnetically lock together to keep them aligned when on the table. A year and a half later, I still love these pads."

"Chris was the main contact / owner of Mudslingers and was very responsive from start to finish. He was easily reachable by text which I really appreciated. I asked for an estimate and though Mudslingers was not the lowest quote or the highest quote, I decided to go with them based on the reviews and also Chris seemed to know what he was talking about. We had knotty pine wood paneling on the ceiling and walls in our living room that is approximately 13' x 21'. We had removed the wood paneling which left about 300+ holes to fill and repair in the walls. We also removed the ceiling and installed electrical work so new drywall was required. Mudslingers repaired the walls, installed the drywall, and painted / refinished everything to look like new. They sealed the room entirely so dust would not go in and out, with a high quality plastic sheet and a zipper to go in and out - I really appreciated this. There were two workers that actually performed the entire remodel - Brandon and Jeff. Yes, they may seem like they are really young (mid-20s?), but they put in a lot of effort and we were very pleased with the end quality. They definitely made sure we were happy in the end and came back one evening even after another job started to ensure all the little things were taken care of to wrap-up the project. We trusted them enough to leave a key while we were not home so they could go in and out. Overall, we are very happy with the work and LOVE the new living room. You cannot even tell that there were so many holes, they did such a good job smoothing the walls. The drywall and paint job looks excellent as well. We would recommend their services to others, thanks again Mudslingers!"

"We now have a lovely kitchen that is a pleasure to work and live in. Our home is over 70 years old and past remodeling made for some strange surprises. Roger finds ways to fix problem areas correctly. He is detail oriented and carefully monitors the work of all the subcontractors, having them correct things not up to his standards. Roger installed the cabinets and did all the finish carpentry himself- his perfectionism here is much appreciated. The color scheme we chose is not commonly used; after looking several places for tile, we found only one match for the back splash. It was very costly ,so we settled on white subway tile. But before it was time for installation, Roger found the sea green glass tiles that make our kitchen perfect. In addition to our kitchen we had some door problems that he also took care of for us, Overall, working and getting to know Roger has been a very positive experience. We look forward to hiring him in the future."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in North-lake, WI

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
