After voicing a concern at 4/12 hrs, about going over the quote he said "it's not like I'm padding the job" which threw me as I was not implying that at all. After saying he was done I inspected the job and noticed multiple boards that had been used to construct the shelf were split at the ends where they were attached to the framing ( a simple pilot hole drilled would've prevented this) and rather that have him re-do this small job I decided to pay him and be done with it.
