We discovered our air conditioning was not cooling (less than 10 degrees difference coming out of the vents) and called during a hot spell to have it serviced.  We got an appointment for between 9 AM and noon 2 days later, not bad under the circumstances.  Gary called the day before leaving a message to confirm the appointment.  Rick showed up half an hour early, which was great...  no waiting around for the appointment.  He checked out the system and discovered a small leak in the coils.  Since the system was 17 years old, he discussed options.  The cost of Freon has been going up, so it could cost several hundred to refill it.  The system was at the end of its life expectancy and had been riddled with issues.  It was an early model Carrier which had been known for leaks and other issues.  Since it looked like a slow leak and we could not do an install any time soon, I suggested that we just refill it and look at replacement at a later time.  He seemed to think that it should hold for a year.  He had been out about 3 years before to refill it, so that seemed like a good estimate.  He gave a rough estimate for a new system and we will call at a later time to get a complete estimate. 

 I appreciated his punctuality and professionalism.  We got an honest assessment and not a lot of pressure to buy a new system.  This is an honest company which does good work and we will be sure to get a bid from them when we need to replace the system.

"Huft Home Services replaced my regular HVAC company when the owners retired. Comfort Master had installed my system in 1995 so we had a 25-year personal relationship. Ed and Donna were still using hardcopy records. When I called Huft on May 12 and talked with Elizabeth, we were able to confirm and establish the status of my ongoing services. We discussed the 2 different areas of work needed, HVAC regular maintenance and an urgent plumbing service for a leaking irrigation valve system. We scheduled the irrigation repair quickly, but I was very disappointed to discover that the repair person was unable to do that work and found out that Huft actually did not work on irrigation. Fortunately I was able to find a provider who came out the next day and did exceptional work – I highly recommend Authentic Landscape/Salvador Gallardo for that work. However, rather than make a complaint, I figured I'd wait to see how the HVAC service went. That appointment was scheduled for a couple weeks later. Anthony was fantastic. He called to let me know he was running late from his previous job. Maybe it was just because I wasn't up on current services, but I am highly impressed that he was able to take many photos of my system and his work – and instantly email them and my invoice to me! He went over in great detail the status of the equipment and anticipation of potential repairs needed over time along with likely cost estimates. We also discussed possible replacements for when I decided I was ready for a new unit. I will certainly continue my maintenance with Huft, and not just because I'm prepaid for a couple more years of biannual services."
