"I am writing this review to share my experience with General Brick Design, so that it may help people decide on a mason to do their residential project. My project was a rustic outdoor kitchen and fireplace made from ledge stone and a travertine patio. Prior to selecting General Brick Design I interviewed many other mason companies on Angie’s List. The thing that separated General Brick Design from their competitors was the Owner Ed Costanzo’s genuinity, heart and compassion. Ed broke down the project into components and explained everything in layman’s terms, which made it easy to understand how the project was going to take shape. He further explained the possibility of problems that may arise and how he was planning to overcome them. Anything I proposed to Ed he never said no. For example in addition to the outdoor kitchen and fireplace I wanted to build two air conditioner compressor cement pads because the contractor who had originally built the house installed plastic pads that were sinking into the ground. No other mason company I interviewed wanted to be bothered with building the cement pads. When I presented the cement pad idea to Ed his response was “no problem, we can take care of that for you” and he ended up constructing two beautiful custom cement pad faced with stone. On top of the cement pads he installed rubber pads so that the vibration from air conditioners condensers could be absorbed and reduce the noise. Ed also repaired several foundations cracks and drainage problems that caused water to leak in the basement. Needless to say my basement is bone dry. Ed dug down to the foundation’s footing and repaired the crack and the footing; he applied hydraulics cement and several layers of waterproofing material on both the interior and exterior of the foundation. Ed goes above and beyond in everything he does. Ed also designed and built the pavilion above the kitchen. Again, any other company I interviewed made a big deal out of the construction of the pavilion and gave an astronomical quote. Ed’s team tackled the project and it was done in a couple of days. The pavilion structure was heavily reinforced and is one of most solid structures I’ve ever seen. It could probably support the weight of an army tank. It has a very rustic barn like feel to it, which was exactly what I was looking for. Personally, I don’t believe anyone else could have done a better job. Ed also custom installed low voltage lighting in the fire place area which lights up the beautiful edge stone during the night. Ed’s compassion for his customer’s satisfaction and his compassion for perfection transcends into his employees: Wilson, Oscar and Tony. He treats his employees well, and as result his employees enjoy coming to work and enjoy what they do. If you enjoy what you do, you will do it well. This was evident in his employee’s craftsmanship; they took their time and paid attention to detail, and as a result they have transformed my backyard into Tunscan-like kitchen and fireplace. It’s as almost as if they pulled my kitchen out of a magazine and placed it in my backyard. "John and his crew did a great job. Our porch was in terrible shape. The wood was rotted with a lot of water damage. John replaced the entire porch and steps with high quality wood and composites. We are delighted with the new porch. The ceiling is made up of beautiful cedar and the deck is of a super hard wood called Ipe. We can't wait for nice weather so we can spend time on our beautiful new porch.? Because John did such an excellent job with the porch we decided to have him repair and replace the things that we have been putting off getting done. He systematically approached each task and consulted with us at every step of the way. For example, we discussed the shutters, different types of materials and their advantages and disadvantages and then we ordered the perfect shutters. They look great, match the color or our new front door, and they are made of a water proof composite material so we won't have to worry about them rotting in the future.? In addition to the porch we had a lot of water damaged wood fascia that John replaced. This wood was on all sides of the house and the garage. The house looks so much better without the rotten wood and peeling paint we used to have. Plus since the new material is waterproof and termite proof we won't have to worry about it. I worked closely with John to select the doors, locks and doorbells. We are extremely happy with them. Our front door has a Schlage lock that we unlock using a code and it has worked flawlessly. It also has a key back up just in case. John put on an additional chain lock and made sure the doors worked perfectly.? John had to find a person to build the round window for our attic since that size and type of window is not easy to come by. It looks great and it is also made of a material that is waterproof. All in all, we are happy that we were able to get all of the things repaired that we needed done. Plus John helped us find a roofer, and an electrician to do some electrical work inside and outside of the house.? It was a pleasure to have John and his guys working on our house. They were punctual, friendly and hard-working. At the end of each day, John and his crew made sure that all work areas were nice and clean. I was amazed at the skill and care John took with all of his work. He really does pay attention to detail and if something is not perfect he will do it over until he gets it just right.? I highly recommend Valeri Construction for any carpentry and related work on your home. He does beautiful work.?"
