"We just had our roof replaced and couldn't be happier. From the first moment we met Weston we knew that we were in good hands. His proposal was detailed and affordable and everything he said that would happen did happen . His crew worked very hard and they were courteous and kept things as tidy as one could with such a big job. They were very methodical and detailed about how they performed the replacement of our roof. All the pipe jacks and flashing and other trim were replaced with new. All the tiles are straight as an arrow and it really looks great. So glad we went with True-Built Roofing as the whole experience was very positive. Weston was very accessible and responsive and he runs a first class operation. Highly Recommend for your roofing needs."

"One of the keys to success in business is customer service. Lyons roofing understands customer service. When I contacted them via Angie’s list, I was called within 2 days to discuss the issue with our roof. An appointment was made. I was also informed as to a possible future date when any possible needed work could be done. I received confirmation by email, as well as a telephone reminder. I was also informed of the time and the name of the representative coming. I was also informed promptly of a change in the representative who was coming. The rep called 30 minutes before arriving and was on time. He was polite, knowledgeable and did not try to sell me a service I did not need. A business gets full marks from me if they come when they say they will come, turn up on time and are professional in there interaction once they arrive. There is nothing worse than waiting all day for a business rep to turn up and at the end of the day there is a “no show”. A day wasted. So many businesses have no idea regarding customer communication and service. But Lyons roofing gets full marks for this."

"It went as planned and were on time and very friendly workers. The 3 workers took almost 8 hours and did a nice clean up of all heir materials and tools. Other than checking when it does rain again, this frim was very good to use I highly recommend them again to anyone needing a new roof or repair. GOOD JOB !

"Five roofers checked the roof and offered their fixes. Explanations differs as well as prices (from $1500 to $3700). Paul Huckins from Trades Unlimited sounded most convincing. He didn't come on the agreed day but the next one. His team finished work the same day. It looks fine. There were no rains, so. Also warranty is given for five years."

"Sheldon and his team went over and beyond what we had hoped or expected. They were prompt, courteous and meticulous when it comes to detail. Our roof was installed so it extended the warranty to survive 130 mph winds. Sheldon extended our ridge vent to extend the whole length of our roof and added a ridge vent in a hipped area to give us better air circulation. The team arrived on time each morning and cleaned up after themselves in the evening. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and highly recommend Sheldon Murphy and TSM Roofing."

"The repair went very well- all crew members were very professional, timely and accommodating. I had to ask for temporary roof protection due to anticipated rain prior to scheduled repair. Ridge roofing made arrangement for that the next day and I avoided additional damage to my house. Their pricing was reasonable and I would highly recommend them to other people. "The roof on my house received wind damage from a very windy storm. 1st contractor didn't show to do the job when he said he would! Called Scott (Field Manager) w/Beach Ventures 5 hours after the "No show" and he was able to show up to the job site THAT DAY! He saw the roof was exposed to the elements so he went to Walmart to buy some tarps to cover it until his crew could do the job. It seemed to me , that he was more concerned about the roof being exposed and wanting to protect it, then he was about winning the bid! VERY IMPRESSED! He was here from 4:PM till 6:30PM. When he left, I had the roof protected along with a written estimate of the work. Compared to the other quotes I got, the quote was in the middle of the pack. Scott stayed in contact with me for the scheduling which was two days off. The very next day the owner of the company, Zane, showed up to evaluate the job to see what would be needed. His crew showed up the next day, earlier than expected and started on the job immediately. They even continued there work during a down poor of rain! A bit latter, Zane (the 0wner) showed up and got up on the roof with his crew until the job was completed! He even looked at the entire roof and replace a few other broken tile. It is very rare to come across a contractor and crew that are so dedicated to, not only their work, but to their customer. Scott and Zane both, exhibited a concern for the repair as if it was their own house! I couldn't be more pleased with their concern, efforts, craftsmanship, and diligence! I'll never use anyone else again!"

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Palo-verde, AZ

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
