"Clear Cut Building is phenomenal. My wife and I are incredibly satisfied with the Fence and Deck Shane and his team built for us. Shane and his team were diligent and responsive. They took their time to ensure complete perfection. Shane even helps with financing if you do not have access to funds or do not want to deplete savings. Shane and Clear Cut will be finishing a room in our basement by the end of the year. Do not waste your time going with dishonest providers. Go with Clear Cut."

"I initially purchased a big deal for $79 roof maintenance, being that I have had shingles fly off of the roof about five or six times during the past five years. Small maintenance had been conducted to repair over time, yet I was unaware of how bad off my roof truly was. The biggest problem was the latest event, where recent strong winds had resulted in numerous shingles being blown off of my roof. I was advised that an emergency tarp should be placed on my roof until the problem could be further resolved. Within a day, the emergency tarp was placed and plans were made to install a new roof.  A total of four professionals arrived at my home on install day and did a fantastic job. I am very impressed. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who is having problems with their roof or if they need to install a new one.

"We took our time making a decision after getting the design and quotes, but Peter Belman patiently and politely waited us out, without changing the price.  We were amazed at how quickly they were able to do the garage and are extremely pleased with the result!

"They were pretty good for a few months but the garage door is off track. They came out fairly quickly. It was really good pricing. I would probably call them back again but I don't know because they've come out once before so that wouldn't be smart. I don't know if it's my garage door that needs to be fixed or is if there was something that they're not doing."

"Although we have not moved forward yet to build our screened-in porch, James and his team at DesignBuilders will be the contractor I select when we do.  (Due to an unexpected health concern with a family member, we had to put our plans on hold.)   We want to add a 14? by 16? screened enclosure to our existing deck which is extremely high off of the ground.   While the other two contractors complained about this (one even charged extra for it) James was confident that he could build exactly what I wanted no matter what obstacles our location would present.
I interviewed three contractors for our project.   Their proposals all fell within $2000 of each other.  Yet James was by far the most professional and knowledgeable of the group.  The other two contractors merely pencil-drew their vision of the porch while James and his team provided a computer-aided design (cad cam) of the proposed porch.  When I called to set up the initial appointment, James asked me to first send him a few pictures of my project area, a site survey (plat), and a brief description of what my project entails.
Jodie, his designer (who is amazing and very personable!) then used this information to set up an online meeting.  For those of you who have never experienced an online meeting, don?t let it intimidate you ? Jodie is so helpful; she will walk you right through it.  Jodie builds a sample design for your project so you can give instant feedback and make necessary design changes right on the spot.  The online meeting is a starting point.  Next is the site visit by James and his team, who, because of the preliminary online meeting, arrive with a good working knowledge of your project.   Unlike your average contractor, James is ahead of the game and can provide you with much more detail about what you can expect when the project is completed.
Because my roof lines were so complicated, Jodie came to my home to make sure she had all of the information she needed.  Just like James, Jodie is very professional and very easy to talk to.  She immediately put me at ease.  The cad cam designs she prepared gave me a clear picture of the different roof options (gable, shed, flat, etc.).  They also showed how the porch would attach to my house from several points of view.  This gave me a very detailed picture of what the finished project would look like.  All contractors should offer this approach!  It allows you to tweak and modify the design to your exact specifications.
Next Jodie, James and Edward (another awesome DesignBuilder team member) came to my house and spent more than an hour suggesting a variety of options and some alternative approaches for me to consider - some I would never have thought of. They came up with some excellent solutions to the problems associated with our complicated roofline issue.  We settled on a design that met all of my needs while keeping the project within my budget.
When James sent me his proposal, I felt very confident that he included pricing for every stage of the project, with no hidden fees or surprises.  James and his team prepared two design options, each with detailed pricing and a cad cam picture of how the finished product would look.  I loved both options, so I have the flexibility to pick the one that best fits my needs when I?m ready to start the project.
James has several videos on YouTube (search ?James Moylan builder?) and at his website http://www.designbuildersmd.com  that show his building process from beginning to end.  These videos will clear up any doubts you might have about the quality of his work or his experience in the field.   His is extremely knowledgeable, his team offers the level of professionalism and comfortable communication that is very hard to find among builders and remodelers, and every person I?ve talked with DesignBuilders has shown a genuine interest in my building project.
Without a doubt, when we are ready to move forward with our project, DesignBuilders will be the contractor we hire!
(Note:  This review was written by an actual homeowner in Columbia, MD.  I am not connected financially in any way with DesignBuilders.  In fact, I first became aware of Design Builders by searching Angie's List myself!  I am a homeowner who believes it is important to recognize and document great service by a contractor and share it with the Angie's List community.  In this way, we all benefit.  Good luck with your project!)

"Vince called me back within hours of my sending him a message through Angie's List.  Even though he does not list Montgomery County as one of his service areas, he was completely willing to help us out.  In my message, I had requested the work to be done onsite but Vince explained why having him pick up the generator and take it back to his shop to work on it would make more sense.  His charge for pick-up and delivery back to us was only $34.95.
When Vince came to pick up the generator, he was on time and was able to give me a ballpark cost for the work (which turned out to be very accurate).  He said that he could get it back to us in 3-4 days but I asked if he could do it faster as there was a snow storm predicted for the next day or so.  Vince agreed to a shorter time line and ultimately got the generator back to us within 1 day!  There ended up being no snow storm but we got our generator back in working condition - along with a booklet of care instructions, a copy of our invoice, and a service history form.  A few days later we received a hand-written Thank You card in appreciation of our business.  I can't imagine how the service could have been any better.  We will use Vince for any future small engine repairs/maintenance we have and highly recommend him and his services.

"Ben has always performed above and beyond my expectations. His solution to the deck separation was innovative and remarkable. He is my go to without exception and if it's something he thinks would be done better by someone else, doesn't hesitate to tell be so. I trust him completely. And no weren't related. He will be redoing the deck trim and railing this spring and rehanging the basement doors to correct a problem with them sagging after 20 years."

"My husband and I were very impressed with the service provided by JLI Services, Inc. We have an existing slate walkway, which was stained with mold and had several loose pieces on the walkway and steps. Additionally much of the grout/cement between the slates had broken apart so we had a lot of gaps in the grout. The overall appearance was unsightly, and we were concerned about safety with the loose slates. I called several companies that were highly rated and described the job. Two companies told me that it would be much more cost effective to rip up the walk and two steps and replace with a brand new walkway. Another company sent someone out to do an estimate, and he said that he could do a cosmetic job which would clean the slates and replace the grout but it wouldn't address the loose slates. He sent a quote for that approach and also for putting in a new walkway. JLI Services responded to my call and discussed options; then project manager Guy Reeser came out to inspect the walk. He agreed that we could use the existing slates and save money by cleaning and repairing what we had. Their quote came in at a much better price than the others. They also were able to get the work done a day before Thanksgiving, thanks to a last minute cancellation, so that we could have a "new walkway"  that would be attractive and safe when our guests arrived.
Guy was on hand both days to inspect the progress of his team. The two men, Joel and Blas, that did the work  did a fantastic job of cleaning the slates, removing all grout, checking bonding of each slate and re-cementing those that needed it, building up the level at the end of the walk, and finishing with new grout throughout. At the end, they replaced everything that they had moved and left the site spotless. They were courteous, happy to answer questions, efficient,, and skilled at their work. Guy was on hand at completion of the work to be sure we were happy with the end product and to give us instructions about when we could use the walkway.
I would use JLI Services again and will recommend them to friends.

FAQs for shelter or outbuilding building service projects in Parkton, MD

A bomb shelter is an abode built to withstand disaster. Bomb shelters may refer to a space or bunker that can protect inhabitants through a hypothetical nuclear attack, apocalypse, or any other massive crisis. People usually build bomb shelters underground and stock them to live there a few days to a month at a time. Doomsday bunkers accommodate long-term living rather than just through a short crisis.

Builders construct bomb shelters with reinforced steel, box culvert, concrete, or other durable materials (but many professionals do not recommend shipping containers, as they’re not designed to live underground. If building underground, you’ll first have to excavate land before building the actual structure. You’ll have to implement air and water filtration systems, septic systems, and power supply.

It takes a lot of experience to safely and legally construct a bomb shelter, not to mention make sure it’s fit to live in for extended periods of time. It’s best to talk to a residential structural engineer near you for proper guidance.

The current standard filtration systems require filtering both air and water. For air, you’ll want an NBC filter system, which both domestic and international producers make. NBC stands for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical, which filters out all three. If you’re only building your shelter for natural disasters, chemical attacks, and biological attacks, you may opt for the less expensive HEPA filter system.

Water filtration requires the same level of care. You’ll likely want to have a large water storage capacity to survive short-term disasters. For long-term living, you’ll want to have a water filtration system.

Rising S bunker prices depend on the size, ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $9 million. Their least expensive model is 96 square feet while their most expensive model has a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, and bowling alley.

  • Mini: $45,500

  • Standard Bomb Shelter: $67,500–$109,500

  • Silver Leaf: $140,000–$182,500

  • Admiral: $180,000–$500,000

  • Xtreme: $450,000–$780,000

  • Xtreme Bunker Complex: $840,000–$1,830,000

  • Luxury Series: $3,800,000–$9,600,000

You almost always need a permit to build a bunker on land with any type of public utilities running through it. You’ll want to check with your local building code enforcement agency to see if this is the case for your area.

Because you’re building a structural component that often requires electricity, water, and sewage services, you’ll need to apply for permits to attach these utilities to your new property. However, off-grid-only units in rural areas may not need all or any of the permitting you’d normally find in more urban settings.

To survive a nuclear blast, you’ll need to have your bunker at least three feet underground. However, it’s usually advisable to put it further underground. To survive a close strike, you’ll want to have the bunker at least 10 feet down and with five-foot thick reinforced concrete. However, knowing exactly how deep to build depends on the size of the blast you’re trying to avoid. Most bunkers don’t need to be more than 5 feet below the ground.
