"After hurricane sandy in 2012 a lot of people in Brooklyn and  Long Island got flooded a lot of home owners received flood damages or  lost their property due to Hurricane Sandy... I am living on Cony Island Seagate  area at that time I was home with my Family and how a remember the water came up to my house and flooded my basement and first floor of my house... I was very scared and desperate.... We basically lost everything at the first and basement floor... <br /> We have received some help from FEMA like every homeowner in that area  but the rest was huge loss from our pockets... <br /> We found structureline based on recommendations and we started to do renovation...Nicholas the General Manager helped us out to apply for a small loan so we could begin the  renovation...We needed to do a complete  house renovation .... <br /> They took off the walls  in the basement and 1st floor, they did mold disinfection, replaced all drywall's, wiring, boiler, windows, doors, siding etc.. <br /> They did remodeling on the master bathroom from the first floor and kitchen, they did a wonderful job...We love their new engineered Hardwood floor and the new design of the bathroom with the big bathtub and shower cabinet ... The price we spend ed was a little higher than we were   expected because we did some design work in the living room and Kitchen but for sure it worth it....If Someone will ask me for a recommendation for sure I will recommend Structureline because they helped me out at that time ....Thanks"

"Dennis was very professional, friendly, and thorough. The price was fair and I received a 30-page report with pictures by early evening the day after the inspection. Dennis arrived early to the property, walked me through the yard, house exterior, and all of the interior, explaining everything that was "good"/solid, areas needing remediation, and areas that could be improved, as well as which walls were load-bearing or not, for my future reference. He also explained various water, sewer, and gas pipes and details of the electrical system. Although Dennis did not take notes, his report included everything we discussed. The report could not have been more thorough. I also liked that Dennis was not just a home inspector, but also a licensed, professional engineer. I would definitely use him again."

"I enjoyed meeting Kevin from the start. He spent a great deal of time with me discussing my needs, and he was very forthcoming with advice on how he thought things should proceed. He also seemed be a conscientious person, and my impression was that he is a hard working general contractor. I didn't hire Kevin as his price was out of my range. I was also concerned as, based on his current schedule, he could not commit to a project start date. I will contact him in the future for other projects in my apartment."

"Don, the owner of BDW LLC, is an extremely knowledge person with a tremendous amount of experience and conscientiousness. He has a high amount energy level, he works hard and does things the right way. He is also very good are figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it. <br /> He also has very good people working for him and they know what they are doing too.  <br /> While BDW is not inexpensive, his prices are fair for the work performed. For the money you will pay, you can be assured that Don will do things in such a way that you will not have to have it redone. His work will last. I can not say that is true of many of the other contractors that we have used in the past.  <br /> I would not at all hesitate to recommend Don to my friends and relatives. He is first class and does first class work. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. The work will be done correctly and will last ! <br />"

"Their work was outstanding. These are fully functional shutters that open and close so they need to fit with very close tolerances. The shutters fit like a fine pair of gloves. The paint was done to perfection with no signs of runs or missed spots and the color matched perfectly. The copper caps fit correctly and came with copper nails for installation. I could not be happier with their work and the price was the best around anywhere."

"I couldn't have been happier with Bill and his crew.  Bill is very detail oriented and a great architect.  I told him what I wanted and he was very accommodating.  He was upfront about costs and what to expect.  His construction manager, Prosper, was always on site and approachable.  The workers came on time and cleaned up after themselves.  Levitstyle made the whole project, which could have been very stressful, a wonderful experience. <br />"

FAQs for engineer structural projects in Pound Ridge, NY

To determine if a wall is load-bearing, start by checking your home’s original plans or asking a structural engineer. Exterior walls always carry weight, but interior ones only do if they sit over a beam or run perpendicular to floor joists. If a wall lines up with posts in the basement or falls directly under the roof ridge, assume it’s load-bearing and call a professional before attempting to remove it with a sledgehammer.

Calculating the wall load and sizing the beam must be performed by experts to ensure structural safety. You need a structural engineer to evaluate all load aspects and determine the proper beam dimensions. A professional engineer performs precise calculations and advises on any necessary enhancements, such as larger footings for support. An inspector then verifies that the revised structure meets all safety and code regulations before the finishing work begins.

Hiring a structural engineer is essential for ensuring your home remains structurally sound during any major renovation. Their responsibility is to deliver expert assessments and design recommendations for load-bearing modifications. The average cost to hire a structural engineer is $500, with rates ranging from $350 to $800. Consulting a licensed, experienced engineer guarantees that every structural project, whether constructing a new home or remodeling an existing one, is completed safely and efficiently.

Almost all load-bearing wall removals require a permit as they support everything above it, and building departments want proof that the new beam can handle the weight. Pulling a permit triggers plan review and inspections that confirm the work meets local code and safety standards. Skipping this step can lead to fines or being forced to rebuild later, so have your contractor pull the permit before work starts.

Removing a load-bearing wall to create an entrance for a carport or covered patio is a task that comes with defined cost implications. This modification requires extra structural adjustments to ensure safety and proper integration with the adjoining space. When you convert a wall into an entryway, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. The additional work required for this conversion reinforces the home’s integrity and ensures compliance with applicable building codes.
