Mr. Ybarra offered a less invasive option. He said Sheldon s would dig up to the front edge of the sidewalk and run a scope through the pipe to check for root damage or cracks. If everything looked good, he said they would not need to drill into the wall. That specific plan was the main reason I chose Sheldon s over the other company. For this, he quoted $3,898 (including a discount). I felt it was high but agreed, in part because he also offered a payment plan and said there would be no interest. Based on this understanding, I signed the estimate. The next day, shortly after starting work, he called me outside and showed me my metal shut-off valve. It was a round wheel handle you turn to open or close off the water. He said replacing it would cost an additional $1,200. I was shocked and repeatedly asked why the price was so high and whether it included parts and labor. Instead of clearly explaining the cost, he kept steering the conversation back to how little it would add to my monthly payment. When I pressed again, he responded, Do you want me to put it on or leave it off? I felt pressured and that I had no real choice, so I agreed to the extra charge.
