"It seems more often than not, my interactions with contractors (in <br /> any field) tends to lean towards the negative. We were all raised with the <br /> clichand eacute; and quot;they don't make him like that anymore,and quot; well Gary and his son <br /> fall into that category. I'm very pleased to be able to leave such a positive <br /> review because there were about ten different ways that today could have gone <br /> horribly wrong. First of all I purchased the house I currently live in July <br /> 2013. In Aurora, the city does not require a septic inspection but because the <br /> property had been so well-maintained, I was not concerned and waved a septic <br /> inspection figuring that the worst that could happen is I have to replace it. <br /> Needless to say, there was no inspection or pump out done prior to my occupying <br /> this residence. I've been here a year and emailed the previous owners asking <br /> them the last time they had the service performed and though they could not <br /> remember specifically their advice was just to get it done. I went on Angie's <br /> list and found Gary Kaufman, who answered the phone while clearly working and <br /> made an appointment to come out within a few days. <br /> Gary and his son were right on time at 8:15 AM, <br /> and I was a little embarrassed because I didn't know where the septic tank <br /> access was but assumed that they might be able to find it. Gary and his son <br /> scouted all over my property in light rain looking for a septic tank to no <br /> avail. I remembered a small organizer that the previous owners left me with all <br /> of their household receipts and thought to look and see if there was any <br /> information about the septic system. We were fortunate to find a map however we <br /> couldn't make heads or tails of it... Based on the map the septic tank would be <br /> located in a very odd place, and we could not find it. This went on for at <br /> least 20 minutes, in the rain, without a single complaint from either one of <br /> them until Gary figured out where the septic tank and quot;hadand quot; to be. Not <br /> one, but two, 1000 gallon tanks were located underneath a stone patio. Gary <br /> figured out where the lids would be located and lifted up the stone exposing <br /> the access ports. The job was done professionally, and they showed me something <br /> about my property that I was not aware of which is something everyone who has a <br /> septic system needs to know… Where it's located. <br /> I started this review off by saying this could have <br /> gone differently and from experience many contractors would've walked away <br /> demanding a service fee for their time. I'm confident a lesser company would <br /> have insisted that I locate the septic tank so that all they had to do was come <br /> back and pump out. It may be noteworthy to mention that the city of Aurora has <br /> a septic service that they offer to residents for $185 which is basically what <br /> I paid Kaufman. The reason I chose to go with a slightly more expensive outside <br /> contractor is because of his experience and overall reviews on Angie's list. <br /> All Gary did for me was pump out a couple of septic tanks however if I ever <br /> have an issue with this system Gary will be the contractor I'll call. <br />"
