He also followed us to our new home in a different county and did timely repairs and topped our stone chimney and acid washed the stone fireplace inside. "TLDR: They're the best. Save yourself some hassle and hire them now. I'm a tough customer. I like to work on my house myself and when I have to hire pros I tend to always think I could have done the work better myself, sometimes rightly sometimes wrongly. Anyway, i'm not that easy to please. Degruchy did a fantastic job on a not that straightforeward project for my house. Some cosmetic stuff, some structural stuff, in a few different areas, just about a year ago. Andy, the owner, clearly knows and understands the business, so when you get a quote, it is probably well judged and you can bet it's fair. Dave, who was the lead guy on site, was there every day and is like the ideal employee for a contracting company: decades of experience, personable, responsible, responsive, helpful, flexible, conscientious, and dedicated to the craft. Harrison, the more junior guy, still has a good amount of experience in the field and is well on his way to becoming a master himself. An ideal #2. Having a master and apprentice take on the job was like something out of another age. If you quote your next masonry job, Andy may not be the cheapest, and if your job doesn't particularly require skill or a practiced hand and eye, maybe you can afford to go with someone else. But I'd pay a premium for Degruchy just to have the certainty that I was getting the best and to not have to worry about a thing. This is the best review I've ever written and it's well deserved. Hire Degruchy."

"So happy with my new bathroom! Jim and his team did awesome work every step of the way. Jim presented a proposal and a plan with great advice , helped me choose fixtures, tile and overall design and helped me stay within my budget. The project was on time and with minimal disruption to my home. Communication was excellent …I always knew what was next, what time they were starting each day , when inspections were happening, etc. My house is 100 years old and gutting the bathroom presented some surprises but didn’t phase JRL Design! Jim even saved and rebuilt the original window and door. Also , because they expanded the bathroom and opened the wall to the next room, that whole room was restored beautifully as well. Overall, I had 100% trust in Jim and his team and knew from the beginning that he was invested in making sure I was very happy with the outcome. My master bath is now the nicest room in the house. Grateful to Jim and JRL Design."

"You can get better and pay less! The quality of work performed was low. There was no QC to speak of and showing up to work on my house was optional with no notice or call that they would not be onsite. Complaints to Matt the owner, went unanswered. He passed it off to his brother Dan who would sidestep the question or tell me his carpenter Tim was responsible for watching over the workers. Tim was only interested in what was in front of him and couldn't be bothered to keep an eye on anyone else. There were tiles in the bath that were to remain ^3 year old tile is impossible to find replacement) that were broken twice! Neither time did anyone bother to let me know what happened. When I confronted Matt or especially Dan about it there was no accountability. I got the "S**t Happens" defense. I was left to find a fix and another contractor to remediate their damage. The stucco put on to cover a vent duct that was replaced had cracks after it dried as well as being mismatched to the existing. The drywall spackle was also a sore point as there were waves, bubbled tape, holes and lumps that were not sanded out. Even after three coats of paint Dan had the nerve to tell me that "sometimes these things don't show up right away. Even trying to get them to complete the work I could not get Dan or Tim to go through with me to identify problems. When I made up a list it was not completed...3 times! But I heard the crying from Matt that he sent his guys back 3 times to finish. Dan had told me that they would go through and do a thorough cleaning when done but I spent a Sunday with a broom and vacuum cleaner to get the dust and debris out of the floor boards shelves and woodwork before the carpets were installed. So much for Squeeky Clean."
