"Guillermo did an excellent job installing new fabric on our Brown Jordan chaise lounges. He was on time, left his workplace immaculate, and charged us a competitive price. We will definitely use him again. "

"J and L Refinishing Corp is excellent. We used them a nuber of times and they are just top-notch. I can' say enough good things about them. They are reasonable in price, excellent work quality, right on time and they're just absolutely terrific. The chair looks like new. They did an excellent job. We've been very pleased. We've used them 3 or 4 times and it's always been a very positive experience so I give them top marks in everything. I like the quality of the workmanship, how quickly they did it and how right they quoted the price. They are pleasant people. If you're looking for someone to repair your furniture, these people are just top-notch, they do excellent work and they're timely; they get it done quickly. I've never had any problem with the work they've done. They're artists."

"Everything about my experience with Furniture and Repairs was positive. They clearly explained their assessment process and reasonable charge to come out to personally inspect my furniture. They explained that once an estimate was provided, upon accepting the estimate they would deduct that charge from my total cost. The gentleman they sent out to assess my furniture was professional and patiently answered my questions. The cost of repairing my 6 pieces of mid-century furniture was very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the work that they did. I couldn't be happier with the repairs. I inherited the furniture, and I was so nervous about substandard repairs, and these folks did an exceptional job. Some of the pieces were seriously damaged - wooden legs broken right off - and you can't tell where the damage was. They came to pick up my furniture and returned it in 2 weeks. I'm so delighted with my experience and I would highly recommend this company."

"They had a process that did not require sending. The guy who came was very honest. He gave us his estimate but proposed we go with another provider because I needed better services than they offer. I liked them a lot. His name was David. Their process did not require removing parts of the floor but I will use them when the need arises."

"Have had this sofa in my garage for over twenty years. It was a beautiful piece in it's day and I couldn't bear to call it bulky waste. Carol came out and took pictures and brought swatches based on what I told Alicia over the phone. They had to refinish the wood as it was damaged in storage. They did it in a finish that matches my coffee table like they were bought as a set. The seat cushion was initially one piece but we went with three separate cushions. The cushions have a nice curve in them to fit into the arms which totally impressed me. It wasn't just a knock out three cushions with x dimensions; it's carefully fitted. The first fabric I picked wasn't available in the yardage needed so Carol came right back out and we went with another choice. I just am in awe of their professionalism and craftsmanship. The mere fact that appointments were kept on time was impressive enough but, to get an end product of that quality to boot is awesome. It was most wonderful experience I had with a service provider in years!"

"The quality of Mike's work was decent. The price was fair. My advice: if you use Mike be sure to HOLD BACK PAYMENT until all work is complete. Details: resurfacing project for kitchen cabinets, total project ~$10k. Mike resurfaced as well as converted a few cabinets to a better configuration for our needs. He reinforced a few shelves too. I was and continue to be happy with the work. However, there were three things that were never completed, and I wish I had held back payment. He never returned to complete the work, despite following up for months. 1) hinge hardware for several doors is of the wrong type and interferes with use of the cabinets. the fix is to replace the hinges on about 6 of the cabinets. 2) holes were put in the wall to provide room for the wrong hinges. these holes were filled in a completely unprofessional way. when you open the cabinets it is glaring and looks terrible. this is the cabinet where we store plates for dinner, so I am reminded every night. the fix is to fill, sand, and paint these holes AND replace the hinges. 3) he drilled a hole for a door pull in the wrong location. He filled the hole but it's obvious and in a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace. 4) for a large pantry door, it is clearly visible that screws to mount the door were too long and are pushing out from under the finished surface, again a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in San Francisco, CA

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
