"Brian stripped and restored a cool old chair that had a difficult stain on it. He communicated so well and finished the project quickly and beautifully. I will definitely ask for his help next time I have a piece of furniture that needs to be restored."

"Repair went smoother than I expected and was less costly than expected. I did get a quote for refinishing the door as well and it was a very good price. Ended up not doing that because we are selling the house, but would have if we were staying."

"Dave's tech Ky did an outstanding job refinishing our EXTREMELY weathered front door. We honestly had concerns going in as to how well the door would come out. However, Ky meticulously removed the existing finish, sanded the surface, and applied stain and three coats of satin finish clear coat. We couldn't be more pleased with how it came out."

"<p>This was a big deal purchase. Some of the work we are happy with -- some of the work we are not happy with. Then, we had a little kerfuffle where they had a piece of furniture, but we had to kind of encourage her to bring the furniture back. It just took a while for that particular piece of furniture. They were nice folks.  </p>"

"The business at this address is Classic Auto Restyling, and they did great work for us! We came in to have the headliner of our Town and Country van replaced, and when we realized they could also repair damage to the driver's seat, hired them to replace foam and a leather upholstery panel. GREAT QUALITY WORK! Perfect match, work was completed quickly and we're very happy with the results."

"We have used this company for over 10 years and reported same on Angies List on a regular basis.. Usually they only do a portion of the house on an annual basis. This time they did the entire house. We called for a mutually convenient appointment and as usual, Jake arrived on time. Jake is thorough and took care with protecting the walls and house. Setup and cleaning took about two and one half hours. They use professional equipment and give extra attention to high traffic areas and any stains. Some furniture was moved and protective foam or plastic was placed under furniture where carpet was cleaned and damp. We moved smaller items prior to their visit."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in San Antonio, TX

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
