"At first he was relatively responsive. We sent pictures & he quoted prices, so we wanted to have him do the work. Then we never heard from him again. He wouldn't return calls even when I asked him to let me know if he just didn't want or have the time for our job to let me know. Strange way to run a business. We had to give up on him."

"This is my second review. I tried to revise my first review but I guess this site does not allow edits. I will tell you Marty's Furniture Restoration did an amazing job restoring a very old dresser that had some unforeseen damage. They took their time to do it right. I did receive a call on the progress on my dresser after my first review. While I was nervous about the challenge of getting a hold of Marty's, They came through and I have a beautifully restored dresser that will last another 100 years. I do wish I could post a picture to show how amazing it came out."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Sarasota, FL

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
