"Wonderful service from start to finish! They repeated a radon test and got quite a different reading than the building inspector who apparently did not place the canisters appropriately I thank Ted for saving us from the radon risk. Highly recommend and very professional"

"Rodney is great. Very responsive, reasonably priced, and sends reports very quickly. He does all my lead paint inspections for all my rental properties. I've worked with several lead inspectors and won't use anyone else. Highly recommended."

"A two-man team worked very efficiently to remove each vent cover and vacuum inside the vent openings throughout the townhouse. One man removed the vent covers while the other man vacuumed inside the vent openings. No problems with how they worked but I think there are other companies who perform a more thorough cleaning of ductwork using other methods. This company did a superficial cleaning and worked very quickly. In and out within an hour.

"I had a pipe burst in the basement of our rental property, Flood Crew was referred by our realtor. They arrived quickly after the pipe was fixed by our plumber, demoed, and dried out the areas, even handled packing out our furniture and placing carefully in a pod storage while the work was being done. They did mold testing and made sure everything was safe, the best part was that they dealt with the insurance and we didn’t have to do anything."

"Once the work was finally scheduled, it was done very well.  The mechanics were conscientious about cleaning up after them selves, and did very good, professional job. (though one did leave his drywall square here!)  The problem with the experience was with their office/scheduling.   It took them nearly 30 days to respond to our repeated request to schedule the work after we purchase the Big Deal, and only after contacting Angie's List, did we finally hear back from them.  Once we finally got their office on board, the workers were great.

"The #1 Handyman service does beautiful work quickly and thoroughly. Their bid was not the lowest price (though it was pretty good), but the work vastly exceeded my expectations. Roldan, the owner of the company, has a good eye for what will look nice and he and his team go the extra mile to make sure that's what you get. I wanted to fix up my condo before renting it out and by the time I was done I was actually sad I wasn't going to be living there because it looked so pretty.
They did an extremely professional job patching wall and ceiling cracks painting walls and trim; though my condo is somewhat elderly, the finished result was smooth, clean-looking, and beautiful. On their own initiative, at no additional cost ,they made a little wooden door to hide  the metal circuit/fuse box and painted the door to blend into the wall, effectively making an eyesore disappear. I had asked that they paint just the outside of the old metal kitchen cupboards since I was on a budget and figured I could do without the insides being repainted. When I came home that day they had painted the insides too. I was worried this would cost more so I asked Roldan about it. He said, no additional charge -- his team thought the kitchen looked so nice once they painted the outside of the cupboards, they decided to keep going since with the equipment they had it wouldn't take much longer but would look much better. This is what I mean -- they take pride in their work.  Everything else they did looked great too. I was stunned at how actually pretty my bathroom wall tile looked after it was regrouted. Just beautiful work. The whole team was also professional and courteous and of course cleaned everything up completely when they were finished. There were absolutely no problems. I would definitely hire them in the future!

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Scotland, MD

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
