Customers say: Quality work

"Bottom line up front: I would hire Maksim Max Chirva again if I needed more exterior/building work completed on my house in the future. Job: Repair/replace trim/siding on my two-story house prior to painting. Pros: current business license, bond, and insurance on file with WA state; communicative and responsive; fair cost estimates; no unnecessary padding in his estimate of scope of work; open to negotiation and discussion throughout the job; used high-quality materials; high-quality workmanship; efficient and thorough when on-site; corrected any of his own mistakes at no cost to customer; 85% cleanup job/hauling away old/used house trim materials. Cons: took a few days longer than necessary/than originally projected/proposed due to interspersed 4-day vacations (one or two days either side of a weekend - punctuality concern); lack of diligence keeping worksite cleaned of old/used caulk, nails, and wood chips from old trim (required a little bit of cleanup from customer)"

"Jerrod the owner of Archstone was emphatic to point out that he is one of the best if not the best and a very conscientious and honest man. He said the mortar on exterior house wall is very hard and can't be ground out. Per his expert advise the best things is pressure wash and scrape out loose and damaged mortar and use sponging technique to fill in cavities with type S mortar. I understood and agreed asking for care with pressure washer. Quote was $2922 before tax. He said the wall wouldn't look much better than it does now but he would get all the places having egregious deterioration and then seal. Two days work. Moving forward his team (him and a 18 year old nephew) came and went in less than 4 hours. Sealant remained to be done and I could see that cost was itemized at $400. I personally could do it in 1/2 hour so I asked him to scratch it from the price. He was very amenable to that. The issue arose when I was sealing I found and sent him photos of spots with severe erosion that were missed and should take about 1 hour to fix. Some on wall, one in bottom corner of house, one big seam in windowsill. I sent email and photos asking for him to return. He didn't reply. 1 week later I reached him by phone and he said he didn't get the email/or hadn't read it yet but he wasn't going to come back for 'pinholes' which I could do myself. First of all I could do everything myself but that's time that I paid him for. He is too busy to come. Photos are from the south wall as discussed."

"We were absolutely pleased with the work Graypaw Finishing did for our yard. They helped us install pavers, place new grass, build us a new fence and install lights in our yard. Their price was very affordable, unlike others who quoted us."

"Review of Erin Landscapes LLC and/or Erin landscaping and masonry LLC and Kristian Nason BEWARE!!!!! We hired Kristian in November or 2019. He estimated our project to take three weeks. We gave a 50% deposit to start work per his contract agreement. He began work, we saw him a handful of days and never more than a few hours. He ran his machinery into our brand-new wood fence, broke a panel and a top cap. He tried to downplay this, eventually he agreed to fix the panel. At that point it was approximately 4 months later and our project was only a quarter of the way through with dirt mounds and trenches through the winter. He had our deposit and we felt we had to push forward to get our money out of him. He continued to have excuses as to why he wasn’t working on our project ranging from weather, his own health, other jobs, staffing issues. We eventually sent him a 15-day notice per the contract requirement (he uses the contract language a lot to defend his issues) This really upset him, but he showed up with a crew. The crew continued work without Kristian onsite. He had stated to us that he would be there supervising the work, he was not there and rarely came by to check on his crew. He then fired the whole crew while they were working at our house for lack of performance. Throughout this entire time, we received promises that he would be onsite at specific times/days and repeatedly he would no show no call and would not respond to phone calls or texts. When confronted about his communication with us he would be angry then eventually tell us we were great clients and that he would do better. There was no improvement. We documented months and months of emails and text communication because he was escalating to being very contradictory, volatile, and deceitful. 10 months after hiring him he sent us an email saying he was “now losing money and paying to do our project out of his pocket” he said he was done and would not be coming back to finish his work. We began to search for another contractor and due to Covid-19 and the high demand on landscapers and outdoor improvement projects it was a tough task. We did find several who were amazing and turns out one was currently finishing 3 projects that had been started by Kristian and Erin Landscaping and Masonry. We were told by other contractors they were bidding work in the same situation as we were in with Erin Landscaping. Many of the other clients were in worse shape than us and had been strung on like us by Kristian. When Kristian was bidding our project, he touted about his level of expertise with masonry work and his work ethic stating, “I finish what I start and have never left a project”. I can speculate what is going on here, but it is more important that this not happen to anybody else. This is the single worse experience we’ve had with a contractor (we’ve had many personally and professionally). If you need more than this one review and are even considering a project with him, please ask for his last 3 jobs as references. If he can provide them, talk to them and drive by to be sure they are legitimate. Look up his business on the L&I website to verify company status and ask your local gravel/landscaping suppliers for a reference. He has been known to change his business name and/or relocate. We found there to be no integrity with him. We are very understanding people and stuck with this process for 10 months trying to work with him to finish our 3-week project and reduce the financial deficit he left us in. Our hope is nobody will ever have this experience with him again. Erin Landscape and Masonry cost us thousands of dollars more than the remaining contract value to finish this with a reputable contractor."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Sedro Woolley, WA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
