"This pro provided useful information via a virtual (online) video consultation. Since this service does not send technicians to the home, they did not do the actual work. I am considering whether to order parts and try to complete the repair myself or under their virtual direction."

"This story begins long before we bought our dream condo, when some fool decided that an ejector pump system would be the best way to deal with our below-grade kitchen. Our troubles began once we moved in -- 3 years ago-- and began cooking regularly, the way one does when trying to eat well and not go out all the time. The pump backed up constantly, flooding the hallway and leading to amazing fungus sprouting from the wall. We called many different plumbers, most who refused to help, given the strangeness of our set-up (these pumps are almost never used in a kitchen, but typically for bathrooms or septic systems). We had some plumbers come out who I will politely avoid naming, who charged us for work that didn't do any good... eventually we got to the point where we could not use the kitchen sink or dishwasher without first checking the pump, as at any time it might unpredictably overflow. This went on and on, but then Provost came to our rescue! Although it took us a few tries to coordinate a time, we finally met Russ, who sweated through FIVE HOURS of intense labor, discovering and repairing the poor workmanship of at least 2 previous plumbers, successfully re-installing an alarm system, and providing us with an enyzme cleaning system to use as well. He insisted on closing the cabinet on the whole thing, which we did with trepidation, as we had gotten used to not trusting the pump. "You really shouldn't have to touch it again," he told us. "But call me if you have any problems!" It has been 3 weeks and we have yet to call, which feels about as close to a home-ownership miracle as we can get. I will sing the praises of these guys across Boston."

"I was searching Home Warranty providers after a bad experience with my 7 year, soon to be terminated "former" Fidelity Home Warranty service provider. Warranty service providers are essential, for they step in and "act" when life deals you an "Oh Crap" situation like your refrigerator suddenly quits. Every high dollar appliance in a home has a life span that will end whether your prepared for it or not. It's a common occurance that leads to unexpected higher debt concerns while you frantically attempt to save your food from going bad. Got a minimum of $1,700 to get a new one? A truck or a really good friend to borrow theirs to pick it up? Plus time to allow it to achieve proper temperature to transfer your temp sensitive food! Well if you haven't experienced this type of event, in your life, you will! I began by doing some easy research online like searching for best Home Warranty providers. I put some inquiries out to prospective providers and as expected, the sales calls began to ring on my phone. They all have why "they" are the best provider - so take notes and compare policies. Ask whether they cover swimming pools, septic systems, roof repairs etc. So my phone rings with an out-of-state area code and it's Zach from Choice Home Warranty. While on the call, this enthusiastic salesman hit all the "trigger" items I was looking for; *Annual Service Price *Price per claim deductable *Response time You know, all the "need to know" info that helps you make an informative decision. I started paying $550/year 7 years ago in 2014 with my old service provider. The per claim fee was $65. Today in 2022, it's $710/year and $85/claim. Was it worth it you ask? If I figure the math, my total cost over 7 years and only 4 claims was $4,450 or $636/year. This cost paid to replace my pools salt cell and chlorine generator ($1,800 in parts alone), 2 separate Air Conditioner repairs which replaced the coil fan motor, a circuit board replacement, system coil cleansing, relays and a capacitor. (No idea of how much my total cost would have been. I paid $65 twice. Nice huh?) 1 roof repair that replaced the "Cricket", which is a 15' roof section elevational change just below the ridge line. It's important to remember that these repairs don't include "hidden costs" which are personnel and service labor rates. Something you will pay for without a Warranty Service. Here's the best part of the call from this AWESOME salesman. He offered me 6 year "fully transferable", rate locked for life" service policy that when divided out by 6 is LESS THAN WHAT I WAS PAYING ANNUALLY, 7 YEARS AGO!!! So, is a Home Warranty plan a safe bet??? I have a 9 word answer for those without a Choice Home Warranty service plan. YOU BET YOUR DRIPPING SWEATY BUTT CRACK IT IS!!! Props to Zach, YOU DA MAN!!! "I contacted United Remodeling after I saw what a terrific job they did in my sister's home.  Ours was a much bigger project, with all sorts of necessary tasks inside and out.  Within a few days of my call, Alessandro came by and assessed the job.  There was much to do.  They mended and painted fences, power washed the house and garage, built beautiful new stone front stairs, patched and/or repaired the siding and concrete foundation, repointed the chimney, and painted all of the exterior wood trim, doors, and bulkhead.  I'm most pleased and proud of my beautiful refurbished front door, original to the house, and painted a brilliant red.  Great job guys!  And excellent feng shui!
There was just as much work to do inside.  They replaced the kitchen door, counter tops and appliances, repairing and/or replacing cabinet doors and worn thresholds throughout.  And best of all, they were able to open up the load bearing wall between my kitchen and dining room, creating a much more open, comfortable and welcoming space.  Every room was painted, then checked, and checked again for any "holidays".  There are none.
The carpenters, painters and plumbers are truly a very talented and professional group.  And you will not meet a more courteous, insightful, and cohesive team!  The same can be said for the managers.  Alessandro, Marcos or Junior called, or came by everyday to check on the job.  They never missed a call, or failed to address any questions or concerns.  They really strive to make sure their customers are happy, and the job is done right.  It was a pleasure to work with them all!"

"They did good work, but charged much more than our usual repair service. They said it was because the part was extra expensive. I looked it up, and the part was only $35, a small part of a bill over $300 and total work time of about an hour spread over two visits."

This was about as seamless a kitchen renovation that one could ever hope for.  Dave listened carefully to the goals we wanted to achieve in our kitchen, and was patient with the design adjustments we wanted to incorporate as we considered each version of the design plans.  One cabinet in particular that was added toward the end of the design process was brilliantly conceived on his part--a cabinet to store large items that looked like a lovely piece of dining room furniture, with exterior shelving and drawers. It is a centerpiece in the kitchen.  Dave was careful to preserve important walk ways in our kitchen so as to not create bottlenecks--an important element in this centrally located kitchen.  His advice on style and color of cabinetry was also highly valued in our desire to achieve a cleaner and brighter look, yet one that was still consistent with our 1931 Colonial.

The Brookhaven cabinets are beautiful and well-made.  While they are pricey, Dave was able to steer us to take advantage of a manufacturer's discount.  The selection of hardware that was available without incurring additional cost was completely adequate, and we took advantage of this option.

Installation of the cabinetry was smooth and timely.  We decided to make a last minute change to the placement of our microwave, which necessitated the order of a new drawer.  This took longer than we had hoped, but understood that this was not a Kitchen Center issue, but rather one of the manufacturer, as each items is custom made.  When the drawer arrived, it was without a front--this added more time.

Once the cabinetry was installed, irregularities were minimal.  Dave and a service that works with him tended to adjusting hinges, covering screw heads, and painting areas that needed to be smoothed.

Overall, working with the Kitchen Center exceeded our expectations.  Communication and responsiveness were excellent.  They partnered well with our contractor so that there were no glitches or last minute surprises--almost unheard of for a kitchen renovation.  The quality of the design and workmanship has made for a space that we are loving, and our only regret was that we did no redo our kitchen sooner!

FAQs for fridge, freezer or ice maker repair or service projects in Shirley, MA

You should hire an experienced plumber for major repairs like persistent leaks, electrical faults, or complete unit replacements, as these issues require expert diagnostics and installation. For minor problems like clogs or small jams, a certified and insured handyperson can often handle the repair safely. Hiring a professional ensures the repair is done correctly, maintaining your appliance's performance and helping prevent future issues.

A garbage disposal lasts between eight and 15 years when properly maintained. Factors like frequency of use, regular cleaning, and following manufacturer guidelines can influence its lifespan. Higher-end models with stainless steel components typically last longer than budget units with galvanized components. Routine maintenance helps prevent early failures and keeps your disposal running smoothly. Avoiding problematic materials like fibrous vegetables, coffee grounds, and grease can significantly extend your disposal's operational life and efficiency.

Your garbage disposal may clog when food particles, especially fibrous or starchy materials, build up around the grinding components and block the normal flow. Dense foods like potato peels, rice, or pasta can cause blockages, especially if not flushed through with enough cold water. Regular cleaning and proper use can help prevent clogs and keep your disposal running smoothly.

Garbage disposals impact the environment by reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills and by using electricity when operating. By grinding up organic waste, they decrease the volume of waste that would otherwise produce methane emissions in landfills. While they consume some energy, using efficient models and following recommended practices can manage this usage. With responsible use, garbage disposals can be an eco-friendly option.
