".They came out to inspect our unit because it was working properly. The cleaned the coils. Immediately after they left a motor went out on the unit. They returned and replace the unit. These two services cost about $500. The tech topped off the freon that day. Within 2 days the unit was not cooling at all. We called them and the owner came by and said that we had a freon leak. Without our consent he filled the unit with freon and attempted to charge us. We refused to pay since he did not tell us that he was going to add the freon before just doing it. He said it was not economical to find where the leak was and we should just replace the unit which would cost about $3800. We decided to get a second opinion. The local "neighborhood HVAC guy" took a look at our unit and said that it appeared to be working fine, however he did suggest fixing some of the insulation on the unit that was falling apart. He also said that it is very possible that the first guy who topped off the freon may not have done it correctly causing it to leak out. So far the unit has been cooling great and its been about 2 weeks. I feel that American Air seemed more concerned about making a sale than actually helping the customer out. Their guys were very friendly, but they were very young and probably do not have the experience to truly evaluate what is going on with the unit."

"It was good. We only had one small complaint. The connection to the gas line had a leak. We called at 10:30pm at night, they told us a dispatcher was close. But they never came by. I called them, I had to call them three times that night. They did come to fix it the next morning. They were apologetic. The quality of the installation and the work was good."

"We had been having trouble with our 9 yr old heat pump which would blow air but not cold air since the end of April this year. My daughter was friends with a couple of guys who were HVAC certified and looking to branch off from the outfit they were currently working under and offered to give us a good deal for word of mouth recommendations to get them started. The first thing they replaced was the TXV which seemed to fix the problem for a little while then in May and June it did the same thing, both times they said it was the compressor which would last 5 days, 5 months or 5 years, they had no idea. A hard start kit was placed in early June before we had the same problem at the end of the month. I called Reliable since they have free second opinions just to be sure, the technician came out and started looking at our system then asked for the history of problems. When I began explaining and got to the part about the TXV being replaced (I could not remember the exact sequence of letters) I think I said TZV or TJX, the technician looked at me like I had 3 heads and had no clue what I could possibly be talking about. Seeing that I work in a field that uses acronyms that are not used in other areas I find that hard to believe, I know right away what my customers are talking about even if they don't get the letters exactly right. He just came across like a huge d*****. He looked at the unit and finally said "what are you looking to do?". I had already explained the compressor issue to him, but again told him I was looking for a second opinion on the compressor and if that was messed up what would parts and labor cost to replace it. He just scoffed and said that a unit this old most people replace. He once again came in the house and asked what my plans were and how were we to proceed. I informed him I only wanted the free second opinion right now to which he replied they didn't do free second opinions! He reiterated he wasn't aware of Reliable offering free second opinions and I had to pull up his company's own website to show him plainly that yes second opinions were free and that whoever I talked to in the office was fully aware that was what I wanted! He quickly changed his condescending attitude and began to look at our unit in earnest apologizing saying that he was the technician in sales not a technician for second opinions or repairs. The unit did come back on and work correctly and he did redeem himself a little by hanging some wires in the unit out of the way. Needless to say we did not use Reliable when this issue happened again last week and went with Malone who replaced our compressor parts (the compressor was still under warranty!!) and labor cheaper than my daughter's friends offered. They also offered a free second opinion and the technician did not act like I was an idiot nor did he try to sell me a new unit, he gave me the pros and cons of replacing the compressor vs. purchasing and installing a new unit and let me decide no pressure either way. It did take a week for the part to come in, but it was installed the day it arrived with no issues."
