The garage door was acting up for about 3 weeks. It would stop closing and would prop open again. Well the garage door finally broke. We could not see what the problem was. We attempted to open the garage door manually but could not seem to get that working either.  I was very distraught, we had appointments that we would not be able to keep and needed to reschedule  I immediately called Authentic Garage doors.  The office rep was very helpful and had someone come out to our home within the next 2 hours..

I have to tell you that I am pleased with this vendor, especially since there was no charge for the fix. They took full responsibility for not installing the spring to a stud in the wall.  They did not charge us anything. This is why we will use them again.

I do have to mention that the representative that was sent needs to go to customer service class.  When I opened the door, I was confronted by an order to move the cars out of the garage.  It took me a second to realize who he was. I then mentioned I could not get the garage door open. He said he already did it and walked away.

He was at his truck cutting materials when my husband and I approached him.  I asked him if he knew why it broke and he told me to calm down.  I looked at my husband and walked inside.  My husband then asked him if anything else needed to be moved for him and he told him to get out of the garage because it was dangerous.  As my husband was going back inside, the representative said that he was not going to be able to fix it.  He was going to have to call the guy that came out before (1 year ago).

My husband went inside and said to give the rep some space - he seemed overwhelmed. There was a lot of loud bangs and bumps. When he knocked on our garage door, we came out. He was already walking away to his truck when he said it was fixed.  I asked if the other parts of the garage door opener looked o.k..  He didn't stop walking and said yes.  I asked what did we owe him. He said nothing.  Before he drove away, I asked why is there no charge?  He said because the job was not completed correctly last year.

As he drove down the street, I told my husband, we do not even have a slip to show the work that was done today.  I do not even know the individual's name so I can make sure to ask that we do not have him service our garage door in the future.

I hope the company does something. This type of experience could result in bad publicity.

"The pros were actually early, very friendly, explained all the garage door opener options including function, warranty and cost. They also noted that our garage door spring was completely worn out, and replaced that as well."

"They were late arriving for the appointment but once they were on the scene they went right to work and discovered the problem - bad sprocket. They suggested that a better value would be to replace my 25 year old motor with a new one. I agreed and they installed the new garage door opener with a unit they had with them."

"I live in Maricopa, AZ and did not want to hire anyone local, I have heard there are a lot of bad service people out here. I was also reluctant to hire someone with a coupon, I'm just afraid to hire anyone now days. I had Precision Garage door company charge me $900 for garage springs and found out they did a lousy job and overcharged me. I called Foothills yesterday and they sent Pete out to my house to my house today. Pete really knew what he was doing and recommended that I just change out the gear and sprocket assembly. He adjusted the springs that Precision installed last year too. It is such a relief to find someone that is not afraid to repair a unit if it can be done. I was more than willing to buy a new garage door opener if I needed to. When Pete was done with my garage door opener, I opened and closed the garage door several times and I was so surprised that it is much quieter. When Precision was here in 2015, they left my garage door making clunking noises and I even told them in the office and they could have cared less. You would think they would have suggested that I have more work done, but the took my money and run. If I ever have trouble with my garage doors again, I am definitely going to call Foothills! I wish I could fine more Pete's in the world!"

FAQs for garage door opener repair or adjustment projects in Valley-farms, AZ

Garage door costs range somewhat broadly, depending on the type you choose. However, you’ll also need to factor in labor costs, which vary from state to state and between pros.

A chain driven operator costs between $150 - $250. For a belt driven operator it is usually $160 - $450. A screw-driven operator is between $250-$500.

To keep garage door opener repair costs down, you should check that the whole apparatus is working normally on a regular basis. This means making sure that the tracks of your door are greased and fully operational, and that the door itself is in good condition.

Installing a new garage door opener runs from $250 to $500 at least. If your repair costs are close in cost to that range or if your garage door is 10 to 15 years old, you should probably replace it instead of repair.

However, it’s a better idea to fix your garage door opener if it’s less than eight years old or if repair costs are less than replacing.

Garage door openers usually last between 10 and 15 years. However, several factors contribute to how long your garage door opener can last. If you schedule regular inspections and practice proper care, you can maximize your garage door opener’s lifespan, saving money in the long run. As a general rule, practice the same care for your garage door opener as you would the door itself.

These tell-tale signs indicate your garage door is going bad, including:

  • Not closing or opening at all

  • The door reversing when you try to open and/or close it

  • Inconsistent opening and closing; more noise than usual (grinding, scraping, or banging)

  • Sticking or stalling when you try to open or close it

If you experience one or more of these signs, it’s time to call a professional garage door repair service.
