"I found them on yelp and received an enthusiastic and prompt response. He has a can do attitude and fixed it in a few minutes. Now I know where I will go when I need upholstery repair. What mattered was the attitude. It was quite a positive experience."

"Working with Tony was a wonderful experience, from start to finish. I visited his shop on two occasions. It is a bit of a dive in Frogtown, with the upholstery work done at the back of the room, and miscellaneous pieces of furniture and disorganized fabric books more toward the front. To me, this was charming. I liked meeting the various family members (& dog) involved in the business. I would also rather have my dollar go toward quality work/product rather than a fancy storefront. I went home with a stack of fabric books, and a few days later Tony came to my home to examine the furniture and make sure the frames were solid and worth reupholstering. I chose fabric from Tony's books for both pieces of furniture. He mostly uses fabric from Greenhouse (see their website http://greenhousefabrics.com/). They actually have a huge selection of fabric, however, I found it a little difficult to find what I wanted since Tony had a limited selection of the books, and they were disorganized. He will reupholster with your own fabric purchased elsewhere, but he said that he would charge a little more for the labor in that case. Tony completed my chair in 5 days, and sofa in 7 days - awesome turnaround time. Both the chair and sofa look very nice. Tony is very generous with the stuffing, and my sofa cushions are bigger and fuller than ever (they were very saggy before). I would definitely use Tony again."

"The experience with Tresa (from Tweeker Wood Renew) was excellent from the start.    Our house is 100 years old and my front door was in bad condition,  it was restored beautifully including the cracks in the door.  I also had a dining room table top that was in poor condition and leaves that didn't match,  Tresa was able to take the leaves and match them to the table - very happy with they way they look.  The biggest part of the job was refinishing the woodwork in a new additon that didn't match the the rest of the house. (including a small staircase)  Tresa was able to refinish the light oak wood work in the addition to match the mahogony wood work.  The match is better than we expected and makes the house more cohesive in appearance.    I plan on having Tweeker return to do some more work for us in the future. "

"We set up an approximate time after Christmas to have the furniture upholstered. I picked out the fabric from a couple of the many books they had to choose from. The first part of February, Tom came to pick up the furniture and now it is the first of March and the furniture is back home. Tom and his staff did a wonderfully professional job. I could not be happier! <br />"

"The kitchen cabinet doors came out very well, The table tops look very nice. My only concern was that the finish (varnish) was not as high a gloss as the rest of the table. Jane offered to take a look at them and talk to the "refinisher". After having them in our home for a few weeks, I decided they were good enough as it might be difficult to duplicate a "factory finish". They do look very nice."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Waconia, MN

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
