I’m 36 year old, have been doing mainly industrial maintenance the past 6 years or so. Love fixing and putting together all kinds of different things. Not as experienced with home improvements but I have done my fair share, and am never afraid to take on a challenge. I can say that no matter what you throw at me, I will find a way to complete the job and make sure the customer is satisfied.

"John Gorie was extremely knowledgeable about glass replacement. He was able to successfully work around a few problems he encountered with the removal of the cracked glass (1992 version), and I'm sure it took longer than expected. I was impressed with how carefully he worked (alone, no less), that he cleaned up once work was finished, and I appreciated his keeping me informed of the process both by text and in person. He also worked hard to give me a decent price for the job (and I apologize for my barking dog!) Once the final caulking is done, the door (with the new glass) will look amazing. Thanks, John!"

When the handicapped-accessible shower was installed in the master bath at my residence 15 years ago, the swinging glass door was secured with four brushed nickel hinges.  Over the years, the top two hinges became rusted and corroded, causing the glass shower door to lean away from the wall and rub against the floor.  The bottom two hinges, not bearing the majority of the load, did not exhibit such deterioration.  I contacted Insti-I-Glass and spoke to Bill Eisenman, the owner, both by phone and by email.  He sent Chris, an installer to evaluate the situation.  Chris took measurements and pictures of the hinges and glass door.  Within a few days, Bill sent me an email with two options for repair:  either replace just the top two hinges or replace all four hinges.  I appreciated these two options.  I elected to replace just the top two affected hinges at a cost of $159.  I also appreciated the fact that they were able to locate the exact same style and finish of hinges after 15 years.  One hinge was replaced within the week, making the shower door operable once again.  The second hinge had problems with measurement, but they were once again, able to locate the exact replacement needed in correct size,  style and finish.  This second hinge was replaced on January 31, as noted above.  When the first hinge was replaced in late December, I asked Chris, if the company repaired/replaced door wall windows with cracked seals.  When he replied that they did, I asked him to evaluate the middle door wall window in the living room.  This window's seal had somehow broken last summer, causing the window to be foggy between the two panes of glass.  Chris measured and took pictures of the window.  Within 24 hours, Bill emailed me an estimate of $310 for the door wall glass replacement.  I approved the door wall glass install.  They agreed that both hinge replacement and door wall glass install would be done at the same time.  Bill was very flexible with scheduling, delaying the job to better fit my schedule.  I received an email from Bill two days before the scheduled install to confirm the time for 9:30 a.m.  Once again, Chris, the installer, came promptly, greeted me cordially, and informed me of the order of work to be done, ie, hinges first, then door wall.  He worked quickly and efficiently.  When done with the hinges, he checked the swing of the door and had me do the same.  He then cleaned up in the bath before moving to the door wall in the living room.  Again, he spread tarp on the floor.  He explained how he would remove the glass panel and replace with an already assembled glass double pane unit already in the truck.  Even though the outside  temperature was about 32 degrees, there was no noticeable change in inside temperature.  Chris was quick at removing one glass unit and replacing with the new unit.  When done, he caulked around the entire window, inside and outside and advised me not to move the door wall or allow any pets near the caulk for at least 24 hours.  He asked if he could help me move back the furniture I had taken away from the door wall.

I was very pleased with the service I received from Insti-I-Glass;, from Bill Eisenman, the owner; and from Chris, the installer.  I will definitely use this company in the future.

"Appointment was scheduled for a quote. A gentleman (Tim) arrived at the precise scheduled time. Prior to assessing the exterior of our home Tim took time to sit down with us to obtain an understanding of precisely what we wanted. After verbalizing our desires and expectations Tim took measurements and provided an estimate. Prior to signing a contract Tim voluntarily provided his suggestions with his clearly evident expertise. There was not any pressure. After interviewing several other companies there was not any doubt Thermal Shield was the choice due to the integrity that was exhibited during our initial visit. When Thermal Shield was then contacted to return to review the initial quote Tim returned and a start date was scheduled. While waiting for the start date Tim called just to follow up and make sure the date was still convenient. The Thermal Shield team arrived punctually each morning and each member had a specialty and hit the ground running. The guys were very professional and took a great deal of pride in their work. The job was completed in the time targeted; approx. five days. While the job was being completed Tim called each day and stopped by to make sure we were satisfied. Due to our home being older, built in 1927 we have dealt with our share of contractors, some not so good. I am sometimes apprehensive with the reviews wondering if they are truly customers. Let me tell you we struck gold with the Thermal Shield team! The final price was precisely as quoted. The code enforcer was by today to perform his final inspection and said "He has been doing inspections for many years and has never performed an inspection which consisted of such quality work" that is a quote. We cannot say enough about how satisfied and lucky we are we chose Thermal Shield.

"I thought I needed new windows...very costly. I called ACL Glass & Mirror (best move I've made.) The owner, Cody, came out, gave me a very good quote and I contracted him on the spot. So glad I did. Installation was even sooner than expected. If you ever have a need to repair/replace glass, do not hesitate to give Cody Lucas, ACL Glass & Mirror, a call. He is a very courteous, patient, pleasant young man. Thank you, Cody. If I ever had another glass problem, Cody will be my first call."

FAQs for glass shower door or enclosure repair projects in Walled Lake, MI

The type of glass shower you choose depends on your household size, lifestyle, and budget. Custom designs and frameless doors will cost more to install and repair. Framed glass shower doors can be a more budget-friendly option.

If your glass shower has many people using it daily, you also want to opt for durable glass options, and you’ll need to stay on top of maintenance and repairs.

Regular cleaning and sealing are key to keeping a glass shower door in its best shape. A glass shower door looks great in modern bathrooms, but when the glass is covered in dried water spots or smudged fingerprints, it can make the entire bathroom look messy.

  • Apply water repellent: Water repellent costs about $5 to $10. Use it to help wick away water droplets from the glass.

  • Squeegee the walls: Keep a squeegee in the shower, and use it to remove water from the glass after each shower; this only takes a few minutes.

  • Weekly cleaning: Each week, use a glass-safe cleaner or a foam cleaning eraser to scrub down glass shower walls.

  • Monthly cleaning: Check caulking and reapply as needed to prevent leaks, particularly for frameless doors. Clean the tracks to prevent the door from sticking.

There are several glass treatment options out there that can make it easier to keep your glass shower door clean. Treatments can help keep soap scum, corrosion, and pesky little fingerprints at bay. You might pay as much as a 30% upcharge on the price of your glass shower door to add a protective coating.

Even with a protective coating, you have to clean your shower. If you are diligent about wiping down shower walls after use and giving the glass a more thorough cleaning every week, you can likely save money and skip the added glass treatment.

If your shower endures heavy use from multiple family members and guests, a protective coating can make it easier to keep the glass spotless.
