"I highly recommend the Harris Construction company for your electrical needs. On March 2nd and 3rd of this year, we experienced very strong winds. Some were gusting as much as 60mph in the D.C. area! Friday afternoon around 1300 the overhead wires were blown down/away from my parents home. PEPCO arrived Saturday and informed us that there was nothing they could do to restore power because there was not enough wiring left to splice into. We needed a contractor! We called several companies to come out to the home. We called Mr. Harris after reviewing the favorable Home Advisor reviews. Mr. Harris came out personally to the house bright and early Monday morning surveyed the damage and gave me a quote. By Tuesday, NLT 1p.m. the job was complete and I was waiting for the local inspector and PEPCO. His team does excellent work. They are professional and efficient. I will use them in the future and also recommend them to anyone in need of a qualified electrician."

"Jake showed up on time and let me know well in advance of his expected arrival time. The work was completed with great quality, especially since my house has some weird "older home" issues. The install was quick and the fan works a looks great. Would definitely hire again for electrical needs."

"It went better than I expected. I contacted Wilcox at 745am in the morning with what I considered an emergency because my attic fan was malfunctioning and making an awful noise. Lauren, who took my call, stated she would contact the technicians to see who she could get to assist me. Technician David, was able to come around 230pm. David was reluctant to go up in an attic with the temps being over 80 degrees, however, when he arrived, I found him to be the most pleasant person. He went up in the attic to see what he needed to do. He went out to his truck to get some equipment and returned with a cover to put down on my hardwood floor to protect it from scratches from the attic stairs and to catch any debris from the insulation that on the attic floor. He explained to me exactly what he did to disconnect the fan and explained that another fan could be connected on the same thermostat. I asked him questions about installing a ceiling light or sconce lights in my living room and he graciously explained in full detail as to how he would do it. He was happy to answer any questions that I had. I would like to thank Lauren and David for helping me. I was a never wreck but they definitely calmed my nerves, I couldn't go another day with that fan making that awful noise."

FAQs for attic or whole house fan installation projects in Washington, DC

Installing an attic fan lowers attic temperatures and reduces moisture, protecting stored items and extending the life of roofing materials. It also prevents mold, mildew, and paint deterioration, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort in the home. This type of protection helps you avoid costly repairs in the future and maintains the integrity of your home.

Installing an attic fan may require multiple professionals. A roofing specialist or carpenter can create the vent and mount the fan securely, while a licensed electrician connects the system to the home's electrical supply. A dedicated attic fan installer may be able to tackle all of these areas themselves, so be sure to confirm what services they can provide. Hiring qualified professionals ensures the installation is safe and the attic fan operates reliably.

The lifespan of an attic fan depends on the type and how well it is maintained. Passive attic fans can last 40 to 50 years, while electric and solar models typically last 10 to 15 years. Regular cleaning and maintenance help ensure the fan operates reliably and safely. Ask your installation pro for their recommendations for ongoing maintenance and service to help your attic fan last for as long as possible.
