"My experience with this company was great! I called them after another company showed up without a ladder tall enough to do the job and rescheduled me for the middle of the following wee (7 days later). I called Harris and they had an installer out to me within an hour or two. The installer, Rob, was polite, super down to earth and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. I will definitely be using Harris in the future!"

"It went very well. The electrician, Danny, was excellent. When an opening in his schedule became available a day earlier than our planned appointment, he called to see if I wanted to take it. I found it much more convenient. As the company had requested, I had ordered and purchased the "fan" in advance. It was composed of parts that fit into the existing fan housing. Danny installed it, but found that style produced a rattling vibration which I did not want. He suggested a style that would perform better and cost only a little more. It included both the interior and exterior parts and dropped down from the roof into the attic. Although it was late in the day and extremely hot, he went to the hardware store, found the new type, and installed it. The cost of the job included the service and the new fan. He helped me pack up the other fan for return to the supplier and also gave me free advice about some unrelated wiring in the attic that was not up to code and would not pass inspection, if I had one in the future. The new fan has a thermostat and is working well."

"Amazing. Ronnie was super professional, very diligent, explained everything, meticulous, and cleaned up very thoroughly afterwards. We have a particularly difficult attic, yet the electrician navigated it it deftly. We would definitely hire this company again, and are already planning our next job."

"Our electrician, David, was courteous and efficient. He installed smart switches in our 80 year old house and now we can turn our lights on and off from anywhere in the house (or in the world!). When a slight glitch surfaced, it was taken care of with aplomb. Rich Shumway was great at coordinating the installation. Thanks to all for a job well done. Highly recommended."

FAQs for attic or whole house fan installation projects in Washington, DC

Installing an attic fan lowers attic temperatures and reduces moisture, protecting stored items and extending the life of roofing materials. It also prevents mold, mildew, and paint deterioration, enhancing energy efficiency and comfort in the home. This type of protection helps you avoid costly repairs in the future and maintains the integrity of your home.

Installing an attic fan may require multiple professionals. A roofing specialist or carpenter can create the vent and mount the fan securely, while a licensed electrician connects the system to the home's electrical supply. A dedicated attic fan installer may be able to tackle all of these areas themselves, so be sure to confirm what services they can provide. Hiring qualified professionals ensures the installation is safe and the attic fan operates reliably.

The lifespan of an attic fan depends on the type and how well it is maintained. Passive attic fans can last 40 to 50 years, while electric and solar models typically last 10 to 15 years. Regular cleaning and maintenance help ensure the fan operates reliably and safely. Ask your installation pro for their recommendations for ongoing maintenance and service to help your attic fan last for as long as possible.
