"We were having our house painted and as we began the work, we realized it made sense for us to have our transom window (which had been painted over) replaced at the same time. The day that the painting began we called around to have the window replaced. No one except Vitro Glass & Window Repair could agree to do the work quickly. They came out that same day, measured the window and provided a price quote. The work took about 3 days longer than anticipated, but in the end the work was done well and we are happy with the work. Small complaints include: we did not get a written quote, the contractor was not good at coming at the time agreed to, and the work was done while we weren't there and we had no address to mail a check. I had to call the owner a few times to get him to come by to pick up the check."

"I called and he was able to come right away and pick up the table.  Promised to have it ready in one week, and true to his word, had it back the following Saturday.  Delivered the table, and reinstalled the medicine cabinet mirror.  I am very pleased with the service and the job.  Would recommend him and would use him again.

"I phoned POL GLASS to request an estimate to replace the broken glass in my egress window which was causing condensation. Mr. Brych was professional, knowledgable and very responsive. He came right out to my home to assess the damage, provided me with a reasonable estimate, promptly ordered the part, phoned once it arrived, and performed the installation, all within a 3 day turnaround!! My Brych's expertise and experience resulted in a top notch work product of superb quality. I would highly recommend POL GLASS for all your glass needs; satisfaction guaranteed!!!"

"Vidas and team where fantastic. It took several months to have a home performance assessment done to identify the scope of work, but they stuck by me the whole time, ready to go. The assessment happened on a Friday afternoon and they quickly began the job on Monday. Oleg’s inquisitive nature and attention to detail made all the difference. The job was not only done very well, but they worked in a way that minimized the disturbance on our lives. I suspect that others may cost less, but the speed, quality and customer-focus was worth every penny. I highly recommend!"

FAQs for glass blocks service projects in Washington, DC

You should seal glass block walls every two to three years. Sealing glass blocks is especially important for shower walls because the glass blocks get hit with water frequently. You can use silicone sealant to fill the outside perimeter joints of the wall on both sides. If you notice any gaps or holes before that period, it's best to fill them as soon as they appear.

While it's possible to replace a single glass block if one breaks, it's a task that requires caution and expertise. The process involves carefully removing the damaged block by chipping out the surrounding mortar, which can be hazardous due to sharp glass fragments. For your safety, it's recommended to wear appropriate protective gear, such as safety goggles, gloves, and long-sleeved clothing. However, to ensure the replacement is done safely and correctly, it's best to hire a professional who has the necessary skills and equipment.

Glass blocks are designed to be quite durable and can withstand a fair amount of impact. While they are made of glass and can chip or break under extreme conditions, solid glass block windows are robust and offer substantial strength. Reinforcing rods and mortar used in installation contribute to their overall sturdiness. It's rare for glass blocks to break under normal circumstances, but if damage does occur, it's important to address it promptly to maintain the integrity of the entire structure. Overall, you can trust in the durability of glass blocks to provide both beauty and resilience to your home.

Glass block windows enhance home privacy and energy efficiency by blocking external views and sealing out drafts. They deliver superior insulation while allowing ample natural light to brighten your space. Their solid, opaque design guarantees that unwanted onlookers are kept at bay and reinforces security. In addition, the airtight construction maintains a stable indoor temperature, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling, which in turn lowers energy expenses and boosts overall home comfort.
