"My wife and I hired Jesse Summerlin for two related projects â a rebuild/upgrade of an existing deck along with a dedicated platform added for a hot tub. This was a challenging project since the deck is 10 feet off the ground and the platform, being downhill from the deck, ended up being over 20 feet high. The latter was designed by an engineer who provided sealed drawings. Jesse and his team built the platform exactly to spec. Jesse also worked closely with the hot tub installers and electricians to make sure everything was in synch. The deck rebuild had some unforeseen challenges due to past shoddy construction. Jesse found critical defects that others, including two inspectors, had missed. He was able to make repairs to the deck framing that left it rock solid. We replaced the old wooden decking with Timbertech Azek â a composite product I highly recommend. This was the first time Jesse had worked with that so he made sure to contact the manufacturer to ensure he was well educated on the installation requirements. His team had it in without a hitch. Throughout the project, Jesse was professional, communicative, and a joy to work with. We're exceedingly happy with the finished deck and hot tub platform. If we ever have an earthquake or mudslide on our mountain we're evacuating to the deck. The house may collapse down the hill but Jesse's deck isn't going anywhere."

"Trevor and his team did a brilliant job with the renovations of the house that was not in good shape prior. He was communicative and available to chat at all times to provide updates. The attention to detail on all tasks is what impressed the most. He was flexing with his pricing and got the job done before estimated completion date. I would definitely use his services again."

"My remodel went extremely well and I would highly recommend Paco! Paco had helped previously with remodeling my bathroom, putting in a porcelain tile floor and a shower stall. I consider them artists with tile! This time, I remodeled my kitchen, so Paco installed my floors and backsplash. A picture is worth a thousand words(see attached). It is beautiful --thanks to Gabino and Juan!! Once the job is planned, they are prompt and professional and they clean up nicely! They answered all my questions and addressed any concerns I had. Regarding putting in the two floors- because this is a 60's home, I was very concerned about the transition being flush and it turned out perfect. I had new oak flooring placed with an English Chestnut stain; the first coat was a concern and they assured me it would be corrected and it was right away! It turned out beautiful. I really like that they stay until the job is finished! Paco and the team care about their products and service and it shows! I would hire again."

"A+ Home Improvements came to us highly recommended by a number of former customers. Recommendations were super positive and so was our experience. Project took a number of weeks, and we were very happy with the team, their design and execution talent, and daily clean up. Finished work has been toured by a number of neighbors, and everyone sings the praises of this local company."

"David was efficient and very reliable. I hired David and managed the remodel from out of state, for my aunt's home. David took care of all of the details and created a finished product that took her home up a notch. David was accountable, very good in communication, and on top of all of the details. The work he did on the home, helped me tremendously as it led to a quick sale and satisfied new owners."

"We liked what Victor did so much on the wine cellar that we decided to finish the laundry Kitchenette area. We started with one design. Victor later suggested an HVAC ducting rerouting which would enable a flat and level ceiling vs the original design. The cost was discussed. It was very reasonable. As we progressed the room was coming out so well, we decide to make it all dry wall vs. leaving paneling behind the appliance area. I told Victor we were considering adding a room between the wine cellar and the laundry kitchenette areas. He suggested to do it know while craftsman and equipment were on site. We agreed. That will be our next report"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Waynesville, NC

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
