Customers say: True professional

"Brian and his whole crew did a fantastic job finishing our basement. The project included installing a new heated floor, building out new walls, and electrical and lighting throughout. With minimal direction, we were able to work together to design and construct a beautiful space while keeping access to all our mechanicals and household equipment. Any time there were hiccups, as is natural on a project like this, Brian was quick to address any problems or issues. We are so happy with the outcome!"

"I needed my chimney rebuilt, and they did a beautiful job. Everything was clearly explained beforehand, with an eye on keeping costs under control while not compromising the necessary quality of the job. I was made aware of possible unforeseen complications that could arise once the work started, but none of these happened and there were no additions or overages to the price quoted. Once the work began they finished promptly on schedule and cleaned up as soon as possible. The owner, Loiue Ranieri, is terrific guy, friendly and easy to work with. In fact, he kindly did a couple of minor non-chimney house repairs for me at no cost. We’d been referred to Ranieri by a carpenter who’d recommended them, and we’re very glad he did. I give them my highest rating."

"My experience with Real Dry was exceptional throughout the whole process. Last year, we were getting water in our basement whenever there was a heavy rain. Steve came and assessed the situation, and recommended digging wells around our basement windows and door and filling them with gravel for better drainage straight down (rather than toward the house/windows). We initially talked about also digging a well in the front of the house, where water would pool due to our lack of gutters and then come in through the foundation. So the initial estimate included all of that. When Steve arrived on the actual day with his crew, I told him that I didn't think we needed to have a well in the front of the house because I was planning on getting gutters and that should take care of that. He adjusted the estimate accordingly with absolutely no hassle. The work itself was done quickly and professionally and the basement has been bone dry ever since, despite some incredibly heavy rain. I HIGHLY recommend this company for basement waterproofing projects."

"Tony C. came over and took a number of measurements & photos, drew up a rough plan and went over our material and finish choices, which we had studied previously on-line and on Classic's website. The proposal/estimate cost $125 the day of the service (which we had agreed to in advance), and was well worth the expense. Had we gone ahead with the project, the fee would have been deducted from the project cost. Ultimately, we decided to hold off on this project for now - doing it with the material and finish we want turned out to be quite a bit more expensive than we had imagined. But we will certainly have Tony bid on the project when/if we do decide to go ahead. He was very professional in his dealing with us from the moment we first connected over the phone."

"He arrived at our home right on time, and we spoke with him about what we wanted done.  He then measured the driveway and figured the approximate cost.  Although this would be our first choice for driveway material, the cost would be far more than would be practical for us (we will probably not be here in 5 or 6 years).  We explained that to him, and he understood perfectly.  He said it wasn't a problem at all.  He was pleasant and professional, and we wouldn't hesitate to hire him if the occasion arose. <br />"

"Haven't received a bill yet. Septic had an odor; concerned about the leach field. Mt. Everett inspected the property. Determined that it was simply from the heavy rains and ground saturation. Did not try to sell me anything; impressed with that. Showed up when they said; was very responsive to phone calls; very professional. They do not do landscaping, despite the name (a hold-over from a prior time). <br />"

"Our work was done by Nick and his crew, and I can not say enough about the job these guys did!  They went above and beyond with their work and even did other things on their own that were not part of the job. <br /> <br /> As an example in our back yard we  have this outdoor build called a governors cottage which has our hot tub in it.  In digging up the back yard they pulled up the coax satellite cable that I forgot I burried there a few years ago. (There is a TV in the room with the Hottub)  this was entirely my fault as I forgot that I even put the wire in.  Well Nick was so good about it, that he went to Home Depot and purchased conduit and installed it so that I could rerun the cable when they were done with the patio. <br /> <br /> As far as the patio goes, its AMAZING!  And while Nick and his crew were working I made some changes (Added another wall) and Nick said no problem and got the extra material in the same day. <br /> <br /> I was amazed at the speed they worked at yet they kept their attention on the details and made the patio look even better then my wildest dreams. <br /> <br /> The front walkway also turned out amazing again the speed at what they worked and their attention to detail was top notch.  And along the way they kept asking us if we were happy. <br /> <br /> Each day they arrived promptly at 7am and worked hard up until 7pm.  They didn't good off or take a lot of breaks.   These were hard working guys and they took great pride in their work. <br /> <br /> I wish I could post before and after pictures here to Angies List to show what an AMAZING job they did! <br /> <br /> I would not hesitate to recommend J&D Landscaping to anyone."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Williamstown, MA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
