With over 10+ years of HVAC and plumbing experience, we are here to address all your heating. cooling and plumbing needs. Ask us about our senior, military, first responder and teacher discounts.

"The crew did the job, digging up and replacing 40 ft of main water line from the city line to the house, including installation of a pressure reducing valve. Overall COST was pretty expensive for labor considering the PEX tubing for the water line was the pretty much the only parts needed minus the pressure valve. I realize they go by a book that determines cost before work is actually done, though and I agreed to it. Kinda hard to get other estimates when you are in a pickle and need water in your home going asap during the holidays. Job got done and the 2 workers were nice guys. One complaint is I asked if there was a Veteran's Discount and they did include it but it was LESS THAN a 3% discount off the subtotal. Taking a star off for this and another for high labor cost."

Albuquerque Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is a locally owned company in the business of resolving your plumbing, HVAC and electrical needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. With over 50 years of combined experience, we understand the field of plumbing, HVAC and electrical, and we have the ability to provide you with unparalleled service.

"APH&C came originally to repair a leaking internal sewer pipe that had flooded a basement in an approximately 90-year-old downtown house. They were called out after hours, came promptly, and made arrangements to return next day. The water service had already been turned off at the street. Two men returned on time, fixed the leak, and began work on installing a replacement water heater. As is common with old houses, problems were soon encountered: the chase (vent) had been installed backward. They worked steadily on the job for several days. In the midst of this, the basement flooded again from a new leak; thereby, establishing the need for a full redo of the old interior sewer pipes (iron) and a modification to the exterior clean outs and connections. Despite APH&C's heavy existing workload, they continued on with this new work. Once again an old house problem turned up: the back bathroom had no vent. Fixing it required putting in two new clean outs/connections. In the process they also repaired a leaking hose bib installed in the back wall of the house. Despite the problems encountered, there was no change to the original estimates. Given the state of the sewer lines in front, they also checked (camera) the sewer line going to the back house and on to the alley. It's pipes proved to have several offset connections and some obstructions. That work will be done later. I was impressed by the willingness of the workers to answer questions and explain plumbing facts. The lead plumbers carefully instructed the apprentices on tips and problems. They treated both their fellow workers, myself, and the tenants with consideration. They took care to protect the interior surfaces of the house and to clean up after themselves. With a few exceptions, they were remarkably free of both a "smooth marketer" and bullying attitudes--more so than other large companies I've dealt with. They did all they could to keep the tenants comfortable. I was also impressed by their ability to fit this constantly expanding job into their existing workload and do it during the Xmas holiday season (the job ran from Dec. 10 to Dec. 26, 2019. They promptly supplied me with copies of all permits and maintained a good relationship with the city inspectors. Overall, at least ten men worked on the job, of whom JJ and MIck McG were especially outstanding--for their attitude toward the clients, their fellow workers, and their company. APH&C keeps in touch with its customers by phone and by e-mail. I did feel a little bombarded by the e-mails, wishing for instance, that they wouldn't mail me to say a technician was on the way even as I was called with the same message. I also was a bit confounded by the number of e-mails from the billing department. That problem was resolved by my requesting one e-mail listing all the final charges, which was cheerfully supplied. Yes, I got grouchy as the work multiplied, but they didn't, at least not with me. Their training system is good."

Thermostat installations and replacements FAQs

It's often worth replacing your old thermostat with a newer model that can enhance your home's comfort and energy efficiency. Upgrading to a programmable or smart thermostat can save you up to $200 per year on energy bills. Plus, smart thermostats offer convenient features like remote control and learning capabilities, making your home more comfortable and easier to manage.

Signs of a bad thermostat include your HVAC system not turning on when it's supposed to or failing to reach the desired temperature. If the thermostat's display is blank or not functioning properly, it could be malfunctioning. Another indicator is the HVAC system running continuously without shutting off or cycling on and off too frequently. You might also notice uneven temperatures throughout your home, with some rooms being too warm or too cold. These issues suggest that the thermostat is failing and may need repair or replacement to ensure your HVAC system operates efficiently.

A thermostat should last between 10 to 20 years, depending on its quality and how well it's maintained. Over time, dust, wiring issues, and general wear can affect its performance. Even if a thermostat is still functioning after 10 years, you might choose to replace it to take advantage of newer energy-saving technologies and smart home integrations. Upgrading to a modern thermostat can improve efficiency, offer more control over your home's climate, and potentially lower energy bills.

The number of thermostats you need depends on your home's size, layout, and heating and cooling zones. In a standard single-zone HVAC system, one thermostat controls the temperature for the entire home. However, larger homes or those with multiple floors might benefit from multiple thermostats linked to a multi-zone HVAC system. This setup can offer better comfort and energy efficiency: It lets you customize the temperature in different areas, so you're only heating or cooling the spaces you're using.

Replacing a thermostat typically takes a professional technician about one to two hours to complete. If you're swapping out an existing thermostat for a similar model with compatible wiring, the process can be done in less than an hour. However, installing a new thermostat that requires additional wiring, such as a smart thermostat, or moving the thermostat to a new location can extend the time to two hours or more. Complex installations may also involve cutting into drywall or integrating with other home systems, which can add to the duration.

There are a few things that can cause your home thermostat to fail. The most simple one is age and cleanliness. Dirt, grease, dust, and other small particles can clog sensors and cause malfunctions in readings. You may also have a failing power supply and loose connections, and the simplest cause is that it isn't installed in the right place in your home so it can't properly sense air temperature. Repairing a thermostat costs around $210.
