"At first the plumber tried to fix it but that didn't work. The part was too old and corroded. Se he went out to the truck for parts which he brought just in case, but as luck would have it, the parts he brought did not match the part in the faucet and he had to go to Lowe's, and Lowe's didn't have it so he had to go downtown. This fixture is over 18 years old. So what could have been a half-hour job turned into a two and a half-hour job, but he did get the part and it was easy to turn . However, all we checked for at that time was how easy it was to turn, but that night when we actually used the shower, we discovered that when we turned it to hot, cold water came out and on cold, hot water came out so it was backwards. Called them and they came out the next day and found the pipes behind the shower have the hot water running down the right side and the cold down the left. He resolved the situation by putting the cylinder in backward to match the pipes, and now it works the way it should. So, they didn't make out so good on this job. But that is one reason I selected Allen Plumbing. I noticed in reading reviews that the owner responded to every one and was dedicated to making sure the job was done right. In regard to price, I haven't used a plumber in 30 years, so yeah, there was some sticker shock since I've always done things myself and pay only for parts. The part, in this case, was $49. But unlike manufacturers, they can't outsource or automate, so I imagine putting an experienced plumber in the field is an expensive proposition what with trucks, fuel, inventory, insurance and so on. Also, I figure I am not just paying for labor, I am paying for knowledge and expertise, otherwise I would do it myself. But they have a jobs categorized from one to seven with standard prices for each category, so if you describe the job they can give you a good idea of what it will cost beforehand. As regards sticker shock, I get that every time I go to the dentist."

"  My husband and I have a perplexing situation that perhaps someone can shed some light upon.  About 14 years ago we built our home and we had gas heater installed in our garage. The cost for installation the heater hooking up the gas line and thermostat cost around $400.
This fall we noticed that the pilot light was not on. In the past when we had any problems with our furnace we called Smith and Sons heating and air-conditioning and received excellent reasonable service. We knew that Smith and Sons heating had been purchased by Bassett services so we called them and arrange a service call.
The Basset service man check the unit and determined that the thermocouple was operating but we had a defective gas valve. He called his office to check on the availability and price of a replacement gas valve Honeywell VS 820. We were told that a replacement gas valve would cost approximately $750 without any guarantee and was non-returnable. He said that it would be more reasonable to replace the entire gas heater. The service man arrange fora Bassett consultant to come and give us an estimate to replace the heater.   We received an estimate from Bassett for a new replacement heater- H25N, adapt to same gas line, reconnect to existing thermostat, test and fire unit. The total cost was $2175 including tax.
We may be old and retired, we are not stupid!
My husband researched online and found a Honeywell the VS820 Powerpile Gas Valve for $99.45 including shipping.
He also found several H25N infrared garage heaters( exact replacement )from prices between $275 and $330. With free shipping.
Included in our estimate were several Angie's list super service awards along with several BBB complaint free awards. Our question is does this seem reasonable.
This makes me fill less confident with using Angie's list.  I hope anyone using Bassett services will get more than one estimate!

"Top Shelf was great through the entire process. We called for a tech to come out and look at our gas furnace, which was running but not blowing heat. It took a couple of tries for us to get a person on the other end of the line (our ONLY hitch during the entire process), but once we did, we were really well taken care of. The company sent a technician out the following day, who did a thorough and professional troubleshooting on the system. Once the tech found a more serious problem than we were imagining, he went ahead and documented everything possible about the system so that once we made a repair/replacement decision, we'd be ready to go.
When we called to go ahead and follow through with the replacement, the person that we spoke to on the phone immediately knew who we were, what we were looking to have done, and the timeline for making it happen. (I barely even needed to mention my name.) Even though it was late afternoon on a Friday, the representative (owner?) arranged to have some technicians come by later that evening to drop off some loaner space heaters to warm our home, since they weren't able to actually do the furnace swap until first thing Monday morning.
The furnace replacement, itself, was a really smooth process, as well. The technicians were prompt, answered lots of my questions about the new furnace, how it compared to the old one, and the differences in operation and maintenance. They left the basement cleaner than they found it, and did a great job creating neat, well-labeled, and well-secured connections to the existing plumbing, air handling, and electrical systems in the basement.
Even payment was a snap -- the technician's phone-based card reader was broken, but when I called the office to phone in my number, the woman answering the phone had my file ready to go and a receipt in my email inbox within moments of the transaction. All around, a class act and a pleasure to work with. (Although given the scope of this unanticipated repair, I hope that we don't need to call them again for some time!)

"I thought that I had a leak in my upstairs pipes. Aqua Pro came out that night, they performed several different tests, and they assured me there was no leak. They diagnosed the problem correctly, their price for the service was extremely reasonable, and they were professional and friendly. I will defintely use them again!"

FAQs for gas piping projects in Brooklyn, IN

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
