"A huge thank you to Dan and his team at The Kitchen & Bath Studio in Gaithersburg for a superb job. I needed a toilet replaced, a tub faucet replaced and a shower spout replaced. The tub faucet wasn't easy and involved removing a piece of tile to access the faucet. Not only did they remove the existing tile without ruining the surrounding tiles, but a new tile was expertly replaced and looks like it was always there. They were friendly, the workmanship was great and they cleaned up before they left. I highly recommend The Kitchen & Bath Studio for all your remodeling needs!"

"Jaye did another fantastic job for us replacing carpet with wood flooring! Beautiful work! Closet was a geometrical mess! He overcame that mess fine! Prompt, helpful and very suggestive! No "after mess" cleanup involved. A truly professional man!"

"Bull Run Kitchen and Bath completed two bathroom renovations in my home. They did an excellent job. The designer, Salih Coskun, went above and beyond from start to finish. In many ways he served as the project manager, never overlooking any detail. I am very grateful for his dedication and creative eye. The workers were wonderful. They did exacting work and the results were fabulous. The weakest link was the actual project manager, Murat, who did not do a good job of planning when to order supplies or scheduling which resulted in the project taking much too long to finish. The results, however, compensated for the process. Everyone who has seen the bathrooms has raved about them. They are truly gorgeous."

"Wellcraft remodeled our kitchen. We had an excellent experience and highly recommend them. The entire process was flawless and the project was completed on-time and on-budget. We worked with Sarah on the kitchen design. She was fun, knowledgable, skilled, and efficient. After one in-home visit a follow up meeting in the showroom, we had a design we were very happy with and were ready to proceed. Thanks to Sarah we have a beautiful kitchen the that functions well for every day life. John, our Project Manager, and the crew (Simba, Daniel, and Marian) stepped in to make the design a reality and proved to be excellent. John kept us informed of the schedule and stopped by at least once a day to check on progress. The crew was skilled and hard working. John and the crew readily addressed minor issues and along with Sarah made it their priority to make sure we were satisfied. At the beginning of the project, Sarah also put us in touch with appliance company that offered competitive prices and were extremely knowledgeable. Once we selected the appliances Wellcraft coordinated with the company on delivery and installation."

"We brought in W&O Design to remodel my 88 year old mother’s bathroom to make it handicapped accessible for her. Everyone that we interacted from the company was super friendly, the workmanship and care put into the project was amazing, the daily cleanup during demolition was superb, and the company was very responsive to take care of a few issues that arose after the project was completed. My mother tells me daily that she is thrilled with her new bathroom."

"Overall wonderful experience working with DGL. They did a full basement tear out and remodel both on schedule and cost. I'll be reaching out to them first for all future renovation needs. "

"Had a 5 foot long crack in my poured-concrete basement wall. It was not leaking, but I wanted to have it sealed regardless. Alek came on a Saturday, gave me his estimate, and then repaired the wall. He was very forthcoming by explaining that the repair was not absolutely necessary if there was no leakage, but I wanted it sealed anyway. He did a top rate job and I would not hesitate to use his services again."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Ashburn, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
