"We could not have been more pleased. We needed to replace our first floor AC, which is a split-type ductless system, about 17 years old. We had an idea of what the cost would be from an online site: [*** Link removed ***] We got 4 bids, 3 from A rated Angie's List contractors to install a Mitsubishi system (top of the line). Except for one, which was off the charts, the bids weren't that far apart. While Unique was not the lowest bid, we chose them for three reasons: (1) Jason (their rep) was the most savvy about the Mass Save and Mass CEC Air Source rebates, which were quite significant (he handled all the rebate paperwork for us); (2) Unique was able to do the job in a week; and (3) Unique included all the electric work into the total bid (rewiring was required). The installation team (John and Quinn) was excellent. It took them a day and half, They were quiet, neat, professional, highly respectful of our homes and proud of their work. We had worried that they would have to remove wooden ductwork which had been recently painted, but they managed to snake the new hoses through the existing ductwork without disturbing anything. Unique had an electrical contractor on site who replaced the breakers on our electrical panel, installed a higher capacity wire from the panel to the AC system, and replaced the cutoff switch on the outside. We were quite pleased with Unique's work, and would definitely recommend them to others."

"When we were ready to build a new house, we had intended to install a geo-thermal system because of its extreme energy efficiency, but when the bids came in, the cost was too high. On the very day we were researching what our next best option would be, Bill McGinley (who we had interviewed a month before, but who does not install geo-thermal) called out of the blue with an idea for us to consider. He was at that time installing his first two Acadia Cold Climate Heating and Air Conditioning heat pump system, and thought we should consider it. He gave us the website, and we did our research, and it was exactly what we needed. About the same energy efficiency as the geo-thermal system--at one third the cost. We hired Bill. Bill and his team worked in brutally cold, windy and icy conditions to get this complicated high-tech system installed. Also, because our timeline was left short because of the repeated weather delays, they had to do it all with the carpenters, electricians, plumbers, insulators and me all underfoot and in the way. Yet they were friendly and accommodating toward everybody and kept the environment upbeat and amiable. Which is not to say the job was without its surprises and obstacles. When Bill got a better idea of the size and shape of the house, and how well it was insulated, he downgraded us to a smaller system that saved us more than $2000. But, then that same super-tight insulation also required us to have an air exchanger installed to keep fresh air flowing through the house. They installed that, and still came in well under-budget. I have to say, though, that through this house-building experience, I learned a lot about just how badly the building industry is hurting. Most of the companies bid low and campaign hard to get the contract, and then charge you frightfully high time-and-materials for every little thing they can convince you was not part of their contract, and those bills don't come in till near the end of the job, destroying your budget and your trust. Not Bill. If a change was no big deal, he just did it. Even for some that were a big deal--like having to move the air exchanger exhaust vent because the building inspector did not understand that it was simply exhausting house air into the garage--he did not charge extra. If a really costly change had to be made (like the air exchanger), he could be talked down to a price that made me feel better about it. When I decided to make a change--like expanding from two to four zones, Bill gave me a great price. If I had a complaint of any kind, Bill would talk it through with me until it was resolved to my satisfaction. Bill has been back several times to tweak the system (or reset it when we failed to read the instructions. He is unshakably patient, kind and cheerful. We could not be happier with McGinley and Sons and would enthusiastically recommend them without reservation."

"He arrived earlier and took a full hour to clean and inspect the chimney which hadn't been cleaned in at least 25 years. The chinmay was oil then last yeara converted to gas. He said the chimney had only minor debris and recommended we install liner eventually and a better rain cap and also to add a clean out door.  He addressed why we could need a liner and what to do until we have a liner installed (ie carbon monoxide alarm on all floors).  All in all we are very happy with the service provided and the attention to detail with both the work done and talking about the liner, etc recommendations. "Walley's sent a plumber out on a Friday to diagnose the problem, that being water collecting at the base of the water heater. The plumber indicated that the expansion tank, that had been installed the previous year by someone else, was not the proper one and would need to be replaced . He did not have the one I needed on the truck. There were also some issues concerning the way the existing one had been installed. Some pictures were taken of the tank, existing valves, and piping and Walley's sent another plumber out on Monday to install the tank. At some point the plumber had to leave the home to purchase some additional parts. I contacted Walley's after the service call was completed because I was concerned that I would be charged excessive labor time for the job, what with two service calls and additional time on the second call. Adrienne in the office discussed the matter with me, assured me that they would review all the paperwork, and work with me so that I was satisfied with the job and the bill.. They did just that--I have the correct expansion tank and adjustments were made to the labor charges so that I ultimately paid a reasonable amount for the replacement of the tank. The job turned out to be more than just routine but Walley's worked with me to make sure everything was fair and reasonable. Staff was always very courteous, friendly and helpful. I will call them again for my plumbing needs."
