"Initially ran into an issue with my home's gates failing (it wasn't the companies fault) and then had to make a couple service calls because humidifier wasn't properly installed after the first couple visits. Overall the customer service was great, and techs were very responsive and explained the process very well. Would recommend for future work."

"Called DM Select after an A/C repair person with another company called to postpone a second service call because he could not find freon for my unit, saying he would call when he did. DM gave me 3 time ranges to come out the next day for a free 2nd opinion diagnoses, so I saved $95 on that, although the $95 would have gone toward any work done. I was called 30 minutes before Christian's arrival. He was very knowledgeable, professional, patient and explained a variety of options. My heating and A/C units are 13 years old. He explained why this unit may not last as long as the previous unit which lasted 22 years. Newer units are made of a lighter metal but are more efficient. The freon used in my unit is being phased out by EPA, so difficult to find and can be expensive. (I had recently read something about that online). He had this freon on his truck so I didn't have to wait for him to find some and return at a later date. A clear advantage of working with a larger company. Christian gave me the pros and cons of just adding sealant for the leak (which he said appeared to be in the coils) and freon: may last 1-3 years, will depend on use, the condition of the unit and size of the leak. When the system ran out of freon the coils warmed up releasing a lot of water down through the heating unit and onto my basement floor. There was a lot of water but it dried after a couple of days after the unit was turned off. He tested the heating unit to be sure water that leaked through it did not damage that unit. Works, at least for now. Christian gave me options with pricing: adding sealant and freon was, of course, the least expensive so I went with that. The price was $50 higher than the quote given by the other contractor, but it was worth it having them come to my house the day after I called with the sealant and freon. Other options included replacing the coils (there is a waiting list for these older coils and they may not be available), replace just the A/C, or both the A/C and heating unit. I decided to wait hoping I could get another few years out of them. I appreciated DM Select's quick response. Wish I had called them the previous week as my A/C died at the beginning of a very hot few days."

"By the time the service rep was contacted and he called us, we had purchased the part and repaired the air conditioner unit ourselves. We had hire the service company to do a complete service on the unit on June 23,2022. I would recommend Freedom Heating and Air to anyone needing service. They were very professional and did a thorough job. They explained what they were doing from beginning to end. We were shown pictures of before and after as they did the work. We will use them again if it becomes necessary."

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Bentonville, VA

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
