"My review is based on one interaction. A representative from Winchester Plumbing and Gas Services quickly responded to my need for on-site inspection of both plumbing and propane gas services. The inspection was incredibly thorough, the representative was excellent in his knowledge and communication, and the price for the inspection was incredibly reasonable. I will definitely be calling them when the actual work to be performed is needed."

"The job went well overall. Magnolia's estimator and residential field supervisor, Sam Musser, is also a licensed AC system installer, and with his wealth of knowledge and experience he was able to answer all of my questions concerning the installation. Sam was also very responsive in addressing the few concerns I raised during the installation process, and his installation team was very polite, professional and diligent. This included not only Magnolia's employees, who installed new high efficiency TRANE air handler and condenser units, but also the two licensed subcontractors for the new ductwork and the electrical hook up work."

"We received a sales call saying the service was "going to be in our area".  Price quoted was for one 2-story chimney.
We had to cancel our first appt due to our own schedule conflict.
Second appointment agreed upon was to be within a 3-hr window, but we made clear to them that they had to be finished by 11:00, since we had to leave for another appointment.  Dispatcher said they would be the first on our schedule within the window of 8-11 am. When they did not arrive by 10:30, we phoned the dispatcher. She insisted that we were the first on the day's service list, but that they had been stuck in traffic.  (There were no major extraordinary traffic problems that day in the DC area according to the traffic reports.) And she reminded us that they were technically within the 3-hour window.  She told us they were only 10 minutes away at the time of our call, and the service would only take 30 minutes....BUT she could not account for additional unknown traffic issues.  We had to reschedule because we were afraid we would have to leave before the job was finished.
On the next scheduled time, the dispatcher called one hour in to the time window and said the service team could not leave their previous appointment site because there was a gas pipe break, and that it was against the law for them to leave before the gas company arrived.  She wanted to reschedule appt for the following morning--again within a 3-hour window.  She even offered to reduce the price because of the inconvenience.
We did not want to set ourselves up for another likely disappointment, so asked to cancel it all.  Dispatcher was very pushy, argued with us that the last event (when she claimed they had been stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours) they had actually been pulling up in front of our house when we phoned to reschedule (rather than being 10 minutes away not accounting for traffic, as she had originally said).  This differed from the truth, and so lost all confidence.
I am sure the chimney cleaning service would have been fine.  Too bad it didn't work out.

"I called the company and asked (begged) them to come out the next morning in advance of yet another anticipated heavy rain. They were kind and came by that night to take a look at the drain.  I had already purchased a $140 coupon that was good for 50ft of snaking, but when they came by Friday night, they estimated that it would be another 50 ft of work, so they would charge an additional $160.  In retrospect, I should have pushed back on that.  What sense does it make that an addition 50ft would more than double the price?  But I accepted because they could do it quickly, I had already purchased the $140 deal and I desperately wanted the water to stop coming in.
They were there first thing Saturday morning to snake it the drain.  It turned out that they had rented the snake (said theirs was broken).  Well, this snake was broken, too, so they left and returned with a new snake.  To their credit, they worked for HOURS in the pouring rain to try and clear the drain, but to no avail.  In the end, they said that the pipe probably needed to be replaced.
I appreciate their responsiveness and their really hard work and general kindness.  I was a little uncomfortable that they didn't seem to have their own equipment, didn't know what coupons they had up on the website, said the coupons were incorrect, and then charged more than double the price of the original work.

FAQs for gas piping projects in Boyce, VA

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
