"Very well.  The two men were excellent.  Very nice and professional.  They came on time and they carried away the stuff I didn't want, including lots of wooden shelving and a metal cabinet left over from the previous owners.   I thought they did a great job in the installation.
I got this through an Angie's Big Deal so I essentially got $700 off but since I bought the big deal on an impulse, I hadn't done any research on how much this type of thing costs (a big no-no when making these big ticket purchases) so I am left with a bit of buyer's remorse.  I also didn't understand or realize that my payment of $299 pretty much sealed the deal on going through with a big project or choose to losie the money.  I hadn't done my research and didn't know that there weren't any other smaller, less expensive offers that I could get from Garage Tek so there was a bit of sticker shock.
While I am still uncertain if I made a good deal or not (clearly my own fault for not being informed), moneywise, I think it made a huge improvement to my garage and I am very happy with the product and service.

"Great experience, would definitely recommend to others. They were referred to our neighbors by USAA (who we have as well), which is how we were introduced. Our neighbors were also very happy with them. Timely, prompt, friendly, and most importantly, appears to have done a good job on the roof.
While they gave us some samples, the best thing they did to help us decide what color shingle to go with was suggesting we visit some other houses in the area with similar brick as ours, but with the colors we were looking at. They have us roughly 5 houses and the ability to go view them in person was priceless. They were right, the shingle looks completely different when you see it on an entire roof. We would HIGHLY recommend doing the same if your getting a new roof.
We wish TJ and Tony the best of luck as they build their business.

"I initially used another company to get an estimate for a large 16 x 8 garage door installation. Unfortunately, the contractor that came for the estimate said No work could even be started without a 4x6 Frame and Trimming around the entrance; additionally that kind of job could cost an extra $1600-$1800 on top of the estimated $2500 (not including a garage door opener).
I called 5 other garage door companies from Angie's List; however, none of them wanted to do the framing.
ABC Garage Repair was the 7th garage door company I called. Jesse was quite pleasant and assured me that they had someone on staff that does framing. She was actually surprised other garage door companies didn't offer this service.
Jed came out the very next day for an estimate. ABC's quote was more than 50% LESS than the initial estimate. On top of that, they had that size garage door in stock and could install it by the next week!
Yesterday (5/6), Jed came for the installation. Although he came more than 1 1/2 after the designated timeframe (hence the B grade), he did call to let me know that he was running late and apologized for the potential inconvenience.
Everything was installed that day. Jed let me know that the carport foundation is on an unavoidable slope, hence the tiny uneven gap in the garage door. Nevertheless, excellent work in a short amount of time at an affordable price.
They also have great customer service.
I would definitely recommend ABC Garage Repair to anyone looking for garage door installation :)

"It went great, Marshall came out to get a feel for what we needed, I showed him our site and a rough mock up of what we had in mind. about a week later Marshall came back to explain the estimate and answer any questions we had, he is true professional. He walked us through the process, the materials list, showed us drawing and we were off and building. From the day we signed the contract until the day they wrapped, Marshall explained every step, kept us up to date on the process and delivered a spectacular product that EXCEEDED our expectations. He handled my text messages, random requests and questions with patience and understanding."

"We met with Glenn and Josh a few times before beginning the project. They had a nice professional proposal and were always responsive on the phone. They preferred phone and mail over email but that was fine with me.   I priced out about 8 different masonry companies since the price for this foundation and slab was all over the map (range from 9k to 24k).  J&G was slightly higher than the lowest company but their customer service, reputation on Angieslist, and responsiveness made us select them.  We had a few weather delays.  Glenn was great at explaining what they were doing and when.  If I asked them to tidy up the site, they took care of it right away.

They laid the rebar for the footers and while we waited for inspection, the rain made a big mess of everything.  After waiting for the ground to dry out, they cleaned up the holes and removed all the soft mud.  The rebar was all put back into place and we were able to pour the concrete and have it set up.  We also had a piece of rebar attached to the footer rebar for a footer electrical ground.  Once our electrician comes out, the grounding wire can be tied in to the rebar.
After that week, things moved a bit faster with building the block walls with anchor bolts, backfilling, adding a load of gravel for grading, and finally pouring the slab.  In their proposal, Glenn had written that they would do the 6" wire mesh in the slab but then proposed having the concrete supplier add fiber reinforcement to the concrete at the plant instead.  The inspector was okay with this change.  My understanding is that while the fiber reinforced concrete is slightly more expensive, it's less labor.
It's been about 3 weeks and we are very satisfied with the work J&G performed.  Other contractors have all said it looks like they did a great job."

"We really appreciated Suncrest and we will definitely work with them again.  They were honest, fair, competent, professional, quality-minded, and friendly.  They were invested in the success of the project, not just doing what we asked, but really thinking about it, and helping us make hard decisions along the way.  Throughout the project, I felt like this was a partnership in which we and the builders were a team, all working toward a shared goal, which was an excellent quality job at a very reasonable price.  I am delighted to say that this was achieved.

On a big project, you end up making a lot of decisions halfway through, because that is when you can most easily figure out what you want.  In these instances, Suncrest was always very adaptable, accepting our new requests graciously, and re-planning their schedule frequently to make it happen.  I always felt that our change requests were priced fairly.  That was a big deal to us.  When you're in the middle of a big project, you feel really "stuck" in terms of negotiating power.  Costs were always clearly explained, and the pricing structure was always applied consistently, so as a result, I never felt railroaded into paying too much for anything.  When a big work package had to be done outside Suncrest by a specialist company, John (the owner) would sometimes recommend that we work directly with the subcontractor--either his suggested one, or an alternative if we preferred--rather than subcontracting it himself and taking a cut of the proceeds.  That saved us money, and gave us more control.  When there was a problem or miscommunication, which happens in any project, occasionally John would just take care of the problem at his own expense.  Other times he would negotiate very respectfully, to a mutually satisfactory outcome.  I never felt anyone was taking advantage of us.  In sum, I felt that Suncrest was very fair, and really appreciated that.

Another positive that really stood out was the professionalism of the workers.  Most of Suncrest's people had many years of experience.  Some even had college or associates' degrees.  Generally each specialized in a discipline (framing, plumbing, carpentry, painting) and was very good at it, and quick.  All were friendly, professional, respectful, and results-oriented.  They were also pretty clean and tidy.  Construction always makes a mess, but the workers kept this to a minimum.

I'm an engineer, and when choosing a vendor to build anything, we have a saying--"good, fast, cheap: pick two!"  You will never find a company that reliably gives you fast, cheap, high-quality results, so think carefully about which area you want to compromise.  For us, quality and cost were the 1st and 2nd priority.  Time was 3rd.  In our project, the work did not always proceed as fast as we would have liked.  Sometimes this was because Suncrest is not a huge company, and they had to juggle a limited staff among a lot of jobs.  Sometimes it was due to factors outside anyone's control, like permit delays from the County, or the difficulty of building on our lot, a steep hillside, which really complicated much of the work.  Finally, sometimes the delays were our own fault.  Suncrest often had to wait for us to buy materials for them to install, or to authorize them to proceed when our finances were tight, or (most frequently by far) to make decisions or draw sketches of exactly what we wanted them to build.

For anyone considering working with Suncrest on a big or small project, I would offer the following advice:

1) If quality, fair pricing, customization, and a good, honest working relationship are the most important things to you, go for it!  In those respects especially, I really do not think you could find a better builder than Suncrest.

2) Construction and remodeling involve a huge number of details that have to be communicated and coordinated between you and the builder.Suncrest is pretty organized, but still, things can easily slip through the cracks.  Once your project is underway, you will have many informal conversations about the work with either John or a project manager (Bryan in our case)...but usually not both.  If they are not taking notes at the time, or even if they are, you may later find that they have forgotten about some of the things you discussed, or, have not communicated certain tasks to the workers.  You may also forget to follow through on commitments you made, like buying hardware or making key decisions, which might be dependencies for them to continue work.

Here is a method for solving those problems:

* Summarize your discussion in a concise email.

* Send this email to both John and the project manager.

* Print out a copy and leave it on the counter for the work crew to see.

I started doing this more often toward the end of the project, I think that when I did, it really helped us all stay on the same page.

In sum, I would absolutely, without hesitation, heartily recommend Suncrest Builders.
