"My experience with Copper Fox was absolutely terrible. The sales representative, Harold, assured me the project was 2-3 weeks. We started the project in early May. Copper Fox was very gracious and took a two hour lunch break instead of a one hour lunch break everyday so that my son could sleep. I knew that this accommodation would likely make the project take a little longer, but would only affect the loud portion of construction which was framing and some of the screwing during the installation of drywall. Copper Fox did not finish the project until the end of September because they failed to order materials in a timely manner. On top of the project delay the workmanship was extremely shoddy and they failed to communicate with me in a timely manner. Their "project manager" barely came to site and didn't show up for the final inspection I had to handle it myself. I am happy to share my contract and all email correspondence."

I work extremely hard and many nights/unusual times trying to cater to customers needs so I would appreciate, not receiving a bad review for not answering a phone/having time for new work, and yes, my voice mail often gets filled up by other customers... There are many companies that charge accordingly for high overhead and answering services they offer. Thanks much for your understanding ***

"The deal I purchased through Angie's list was I believe $1700(?) for a crew for a day. After looking around David realized it would be 2 days. David, Miguel and crew removed 5 or 6 large oaks, a diseased hickory, and many smaller scrubby trees. They ground stumps and cut all the wood in fireplace lengths for us to split later- as I requested. Because he didn't have to haul all the wood away or split it, I was able to have more trees taken down. The crew was fast, efficient and Miguel is amazing in the treetops. This was in 2015 and my barren shady yard is now sunny and grassy."

"After another patch of poor weather and another visit by Miss Utility, the project got started in late October with Mark supervising all the work. After locating the irrigation lines, the excavator got started right away. This person was a highly qualified professional and his work with the machinery was outstanding. About halfway down the driveway they identified the power and cable lines and expertly navigated around them. The two other crew members worked along the excavator pulling up rocks, cutting roots, and removing other debris. The excavating was done in the morning and in the afternoon the crew lined the ditch with fabric. Next, they began to carefully place the larger rocks into the ditch on top of the fabric. Each large rock was meticulously placed by hand in the ditch, very similar to putting a jigsaw puzzle together. This took a couple of days to complete. Once this was done another layer of smaller stones were distributed between the spaces between the large rocks. When this was done, the area was completely cleaned up. A pile of large rocks were left for us to use around the rest of the yard. It was an amazing job and we are very pleased by how attractive it is. All the employees were courteous and hard working. It was a very professionally done job by everyone involved and they answered all our questions along the way. We had requested quotes from two other local companies that we never heard from again after leaving numerous messages with their answering services. We were very impressed with the prompt and courteous approach from Mark and his company down to his work crews. We would highly recommend Acclaim Services for your landscaping needs."

"Should be called "Steal-tite". Company came out to give estimate in MAY 2019. Said they couldn't do the job until December, but we weren't having any leaks by June, so we went ahead and signed contract, sent in $800 deposit. Well, we ended up buying another house and decided not to have the work done. This was about October. Tried to call Seal-tite several times, always get the "answering service" and they never call back. Finally found the card of the engineer who quoted our estimate, Curt Giantonio. He said too bad so sad for our deposit, and that we had no recourse to get the money back. I realize the contract said the deposit was non-refundable. But the company could have been courteous, understood the situation, and refund my deposit even though legally they don't have to. Instead they've chosen to keep my money for zero services rendered. I could understand them keeping a portion to cover the travel costs of the engineer who came on site to give the estimate, but there's no way that is anywhere near $800. Greedy company that obviously doesn't care about people."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Buckingham, VA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
