"Adrian was great. The estimate was about $20,000 for the second story, composite deck we want which means that the project will be put off for a little while. We will probably get a couple other estimates for comparison at that point, but we were very happy with our consultation experience with Adrian."

"Mr. Wilburn's crew showed up on time Thursday to rake my leaves.  They had to reschedule when the weather turned unfavorable in the middle of their work.  The crew returned Friday as promised to finish the work.  Since I was at the office that, I could not hand them the check in person.  Mr. Wilburn let me mail it.  My contractor was in the house that day take care of a project and commented that the crew did an excellent job.  I inspected the results afterwards and agree.  Mr. Wilburn's company will be back next year to mow my lawn and take care of my other landscaping needs.

"We met with Glenn and Josh a few times before beginning the project. They had a nice professional proposal and were always responsive on the phone. They preferred phone and mail over email but that was fine with me.   I priced out about 8 different masonry companies since the price for this foundation and slab was all over the map (range from 9k to 24k).  J&G was slightly higher than the lowest company but their customer service, reputation on Angieslist, and responsiveness made us select them.  We had a few weather delays.  Glenn was great at explaining what they were doing and when.  If I asked them to tidy up the site, they took care of it right away.

They laid the rebar for the footers and while we waited for inspection, the rain made a big mess of everything.  After waiting for the ground to dry out, they cleaned up the holes and removed all the soft mud.  The rebar was all put back into place and we were able to pour the concrete and have it set up.  We also had a piece of rebar attached to the footer rebar for a footer electrical ground.  Once our electrician comes out, the grounding wire can be tied in to the rebar.
After that week, things moved a bit faster with building the block walls with anchor bolts, backfilling, adding a load of gravel for grading, and finally pouring the slab.  In their proposal, Glenn had written that they would do the 6" wire mesh in the slab but then proposed having the concrete supplier add fiber reinforcement to the concrete at the plant instead.  The inspector was okay with this change.  My understanding is that while the fiber reinforced concrete is slightly more expensive, it's less labor.
It's been about 3 weeks and we are very satisfied with the work J&G performed.  Other contractors have all said it looks like they did a great job."

"The service worked out really well. There was an article in the Washington Post yesterday about home inspector and what they should be doing, he did exactly what was outlined in the article. It took about three hours, we discussed what the issues were in the house and if I wanted to rent whether or not it would be worth doing that. He was giving me estimates of things that needs to be fixed, repaired and what it would cost. When he finished, he emailed me a very detailed report with pictures and everything."

"As stated we purchased a new sliding basement door from this company.? The door was ordered and was supposed to be delivered in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.? After a few months, the company finally contacted us after numerous attempts to contact them.? We were informed the door was on back order.? A few months later we were informed the door had arrived and were contacted by another company to come and install it.? When the door was installed we informed the installers that both the door and screen door were not square.? We went round and round with Honest Exteriors and the installation company for approximately 6 to 8 months.? At that time another crew came out and delivered a new screen door stating that it must not be square.? It was installed and it was still not level.? Once again we argued with both Honest Exteriors and the installation company for another 6 months or so and finally another crew came out and looked at the door.? This crew realized that it had not been installed properly when it was originally installed it needed to be shimmed to get it level.? This new crew removed the door and reinstalled it.? When they were finished it was perfectly level and everything looks great and functions correctly and looks good.? Overall, our experience was not good regarding this purchase.? Though Honest Exteriors did give us and additional discount originally since the door was not delivered on time, the fact the neither the installation company nor Honest exteriors would contact us and we had to argue back and forth was not very professional at all.? Due to our experience we will not use either of these companies again."

"Excellent! They're very realiable, prompt and showed up everyday. I wanted to be there throughout installation process so I requested that the stop work on occasions when I was going out of town. The rate for installation was cheaper than others I received and their work ethic is great along with the pride they take in providing good quality bricklaying. I highly recommend them. Very easy to communicate with and friendly workers who always gave insight on how I could improve the curb appeal to house. Will be looking forward to working with them more. Have some pillars and flagstone I want them to do. They provided pictures and references to other ones that attracted me into watching them in my dream home. Great group of guys and very hard working! Customer service was great no hidden fees every price was quoted from beginning to end and their estimate of materials needed was right on."

"Good Start Construction (Rosaly Alfaro owner and his assistant Arquimides) did a fantastic job installing a new kitchen, bathroom, and office.  He also built a very custom rustic bookshelving for the office, pavers for the back patio, and repaired my exterior portico, window cornices, painting, trimwork for spiraling staircase, etc.  He did such a great job with the first project (custom wood curtain cornices), I wanted him to do everything in my house including major renovations!  I'm that happy with the prices he gave me and his incredible work ethic.
I'm a very detailed oriented person and have pretty high standards on my interior design and decorating.  I've custom built 2 houses, if that tells how picky I am.  I'm equally discriminating on price and budget.  I found Rosaly very meticulous in his work with a great eye for customization.  He's great with his prices, which would be a challenge for anyone to beat!  He's always on time, cleans up after himself, and the most diligent contractor I've ever worked with.   He was a referral from my well known wall covering hanger.
And as important, Rosaly is such a nice guy, great friendly personality, honest, and very hard working.  He's on my speed dial and I hope he never leaves the area!!

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in California, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
