"They contacted me right away, set up an appointment, came and did a wonderful presentation that was on a Tuesday. I had other contractors in between. They already sent me their estimates. I waited till that Saturday. And I emailed him, that I wanted to get his estimate. Never received anything. The following Monday, I called his number. He never got back with me. I told him what I wanted. He never got back to me. On Tuesday, which would have been a week after he was here. I called H L Bowman, and spoke with somebody there. She said she would check into it, and she would have an estimate to me within a day or two. And they never got back with me. I never got an estimate. And we checked our email address. Make sure everything was good. Never received anything. And here it is like, over two weeks later and havent heard a word from them. "

"We called Pronto to assess our water heater in January. The technician, Jesse West, came out to our house on January 11 and told us we would need a new one. He showed me the figures for one with a tank - about $6300, and a tankless one - about $7400. Jesse told me I could receive a rebate for the tankless water heater from the gas company. I asked how much and was told about $1400. I said that the tankless water heater would actually cost us less than one with a tank. My husband came into the room and I repeated what Jesse said and he responded in like fashion that we would actually end up spending less for the tankless one. Flash forward four weeks and I received a check for $400 not $1400. I called in to complain and had to repeatedly call to get a response from Jesse's manager, Bobby. When Bobby called I repeated the events surrounding choosing the water heater and he said it was all heresay and there was nothing he was willing to do. I told him he should teach his workers not to tell customers the amount of the rebate and that they should tell customers to research it for themselves before making a decision. He just kept repeating that there was nothing in writing and that I could always get a tax break next year for installing a high efficiency water heater. I repeated that he should tell his men not to tell people the rebate amount. He insisted that some gas companies gave as much as $1400, which is a lie because according to the pa.gov site rebates range from$250 - $500. He then basically called me a LIAR for stating that Jesse told me $1400 because he, Bobby, wasn't present for the conversation. That was the last straw. Remember to get everything in writing with these companies because they will lie to you to get your business."

FAQs for water main install, replace or repair projects in Carlisle, PA

If you notice puddles or standing water in your yard, a sudden drop in water pressure, cracks forming in your foundation, frequent clogs in your plumbing fixtures, or water that looks or smells unusual, you might have a leak in your main water line. These signs mean it's time to call a professional to evaluate the issue and prevent further damage.

A professional water main inspection is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed plumber who checks every section of your plumbing system. The inspection costs $165 and uses advanced diagnostic techniques to identify hidden leaks or wear. This service clarifies the exact condition of your water main, enabling precise repairs that prevent future damage and ensure the overall health of your plumbing system.

Protect your water main by scheduling a cleaning and inspection every two to five years. The average cost of a sewer line cleaning is $400. It’s also important to never dig in your yard without first calling the dig line (811) to ensure you don't accidentally hit the water or sewer lines. Watch for soil erosion, low water pressure, or wet spots in your yard, and take immediate action if you suspect a leak. Remember, the longer you leave it, the worse the problem gets and the more costly it is to fix.

When properly maintained, your water main is engineered to remain functional for 50 years or longer. A durable water service in excellent condition should consistently perform without major issues for half a century. In contrast, metal pipes exposed to acidic soil corrode faster, whereas modern plastic pipes resist corrosion and function for decades beyond metal alternatives. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for confirming your system’s longevity.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the cost to repair a water main. Insurers fund only sudden, unforeseen events like a burst pipe and exclude gradual issues or normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from leaks, such as mold remediation or property claims, is not covered. It is essential to contact your insurance provider immediately to confirm your policy’s details and any potential adjustments needed.
