"Jax Furniture Repair repaired 2 damaged pieces of furniture for me. I was waiting until my grandchildren to get past the point of worry about more. He called me back on time, and picked up, worked on, and delivered great results. I highly recommend him."

Customers say: Quality work

"I selected Rick Metz Fine Furniture Repair because he had the most 5 star reviews. And he did not let me down! I had an old cedar chest that was in my mother's family for years and was in pretty rough shape. Rick refinished the lid, touched up the rest of it, put new lacquer over all of it, and it is gorgeous! I was so pleased and he did all of this in about one week. I felt the cost was very reasonable for the job that he did too! I will use him again and recommend him to anyone. Peggy R. in Cincinnati, Ohio"

"The big deal form Furniture Medic by Cinti Furniture Restoration worked out okay. They were pretty responsive coming out through the estimate but I since broke the chair again. I didn't use it for a while. The total bill was a lot higher than the big deal and it was down payment. We had several things repaired and refinished. They came out and got the furniture and bring it to their place to restore it. They took everything. I would say based on the cost the quality was okay. This is the first I have had furniture refinished and I thought the price was on the high side. The price would be 'B' but the service was pretty much 'A' with the lady who did the estimates and everything. I had a pretty good experience with them. I don't do this very often so I was a little shocked by the total but that was it. I think I will call them back to see if they can do the repeat on the chair."

"Ken was great to work with. He was very thorough, responsive and interested in our satisfaction. Everyone came on time, was efficient, and cleaned up afterwards. They were a day early to reinstall the doors after they were painted off-site. We went on vacation immediately after they finished, and Ken followed up quickly to make sure we were satisfied. We were very pleased and would highly recommend them."

"My 14 year old kitchen cabinets were fading around the handles and from sun exposure. Professional Furniture Services sent out 2 guys who came in with a kit, mixed color to match the cabinets and touched them up. Cabinets look great! The other alternative would have been to strip and refinish the cabinets which would have been very costly. I highly recommend the company!"

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Cincinnati, OH

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
