Customers say: Quick response

"David Leech is a top quality craftsman! He fully repaired and restored my grandparents’ antique oak draw leaf dining table and chairs. He even crafted a new mechanism to enable the leaves to smoothly extend and retract. The staining, clear coat and beautiful beeswax polish is exquisite. This furniture has a particularly meaningful place in my family’s heart, given it’s honored place at our little summer cottage on Lake Erie. So many loving memories now amplified by this beautiful workmanship. Thank you so much, David!"

"I cannot express how incredibly pleasant and satisfactory this experience has been. I could not envision how my over one hundred and fifty year old high end bookcase would look after it was damaged by a moving company. Sean took this piece back to its original condition. Sean was absolutely meticulous, timely and impressive in his knowledge of antique furniture. His customer service and craftmanship are impeccable. I have used many companies out there (including one from Angies List, Browsers Welcome) to do small repairs and refinishing work on my antique wood products, none of those companies compare to the quality this company has demonstrated."

"The furniture store where I bought the chair recommended Mr. Urton. He was very understanding when I agonized over the cost -- this was not a hard sell! -- and encouraged me to consider whether it would be more sensible to buy a new chair. After I investigated, however, I decided that the cost was worth it -- and I am so glad I did. Mr. Urton was a pleasure to do business with: he had to take the chair to his workshop, because it had to be almost completely disassembled to get at the damage (hence the cost). The work was done quickly and, as far as I'm concerned it seems better than new. I would definitely contact Mr. Urton about any furniture repairs we needed in the future."

"We had a very good experience with Bill Maddox.  He is a professional with many years' experience.  When the parts were no longer available to replace a broken recliner, he fashioned replacement parts and fully repaired the seat.  Everything is like new.  He was prompt, courteous and delivered as promised.  It took a little over one week, and was well worth it.  I would definitely call on Bill again, and I highly recommend him to others. <br />"

"Wow!  Great customer service!  When we received replacement slings from the manufacturer of our 7-year-old patio furniture, we couldn't get them installed without stripping the screws.  I found Strip-n-Strap online and they were easily able to install them.  When some of the slings from the manufacturer were the wrong size, Strip-n-Strap allowed me to leave one piece of furniture there until the manufacturer corrected the mistake.  Next time, I will have Strip-n-Strap make the replacement slings instead of ordering them through the original manufacturer.  Nice people, great work. <br />"

"Everything went great and the work is exquisite. I almost hate to recommend them as they are very popular so there is a wait. Steve Coup is very knowledgeable in regard to both the refinishing and upholstering processes. His crew is obviously first rate. Most all work must go to his shop. He picks up and delivers although I'm not sure what the process might be outside Columbus. As with many providers these days, we communicated mostly by email, which I like as then I have a record of our agreements. The work is not inexpensive--I paid a few thousand for the desk, an antique twelve sided table, two antique library chairs, ...but every time I look at them now I have to smile."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Columbus, OH

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
