"Mr. Arreguin did an amazing job of refinishing a hardwood entrance door and also repairing a cracked door frame. The door is like new. I also appreciate the excellent customer service and communication with Vanessa at his office regarding appointment times. I'm considering JCA for other wood working projects in my home."

"We had marble counter-tops and bathroom shower stalls to clean, polish and seal. The effort and quality of work was excellent. Zuka is the owner. He did all the work himself over a two-day span working non-stop. In addition to grout repair, he removed and re-caulked all of the surfaces."

"Darrel Givens and his brother were skilled, hardworking, good-humored, punctual, perfectionist professionals at a craft that they clearly love despite the sometimes unpleasant working conditions. They wer neat and took care not to damage floors or nearby walls with chemical stripper or removed paint.  According to our needs, they did much work on siste but removed pieces, like some doors and the bannister, when it would be easier and cheaper to use the stripping tanks in their shop. On the whole, their rates seemed very reasonable. They were great people to work with and have performing the work, and i would recommend them without reservatiion.

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Crystal Lake, IL

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
