Last summer the insurance company I have my homeowner?s policy with sent a letter saying they noticed my roof had damaged/deteriorating shingles and would not renew my policy unless I replaced the roof.  Having my back up against a wall, I had no choice but to find a roofing company.
I liked what I saw listed about Air Roofing & Contracting on Angie's List so that is who I decided to contact.  That was one of the best decisions I made!  This was my first time having to deal with a roof repair so I was nervous about the whole process, but from the very beginning, David Rodriguez with Air Roofing was there for me.
David inspected the roof and noticed hail and wind damage to it and advised me to put in a claim with my insurance company.  I'm especially glad he told me to do that, otherwise I would have never of known this was something the insurance company would pay for.  Then when it came time to meet with the claims adjuster, it was David who represented me with him (that saved me from having to miss time from work).
Basically it was David who took care of everything involved with replacing the roof.  From inspecting the roof, to immediately starting the job, to seeing it completed quickly, and to making sure the job performed by his crew was of high quality.  I believe the only thing I did was placing the claim with the insurance company and picking the color of the shingles for the new roof.  It was such a relief dealing with a company that didn't require constant checking up on to get the work started and/or finished!
David also took the time to explain all aspects of the roof replacement to me.  I found his knowledge on the subject to be extraordinary.  Also, I found David's character to be extraordinary as well.  I had a lot of issues happening at the same time as the roof replacement and David was very understanding and respectful of that.  Even at my most distracted moments, he was always patient, especially if I needed him to repeat the same thing over a few times.

"A woman knocked on our door one weekend and told us she was representing Community Builders. She told us a little bit about what they did, and she offered to have a salesman call us and make an appointment to come by and do a presentation and quote. I gave her our phone number and Mel called a day or two later. Mel was able to come the following week, and he sat in our kitchen with me and my wife and explained the Enviro View windows. He was very knowledgeable and relaxed - very good salesman. Mel also showed us a sample of the Smart Coat paint. (My wife and I had decided to installl energy efficient windows and paint the house a few months before, but we had not had the time to get 3 bids and do all the research on window types and prices.) Mel quoted us a price and told us that if we decided to sign a contract that evening, he would knock off a few thousand dollars. The price was higher than I expected, but the windows at least did not seem to be too far out of line (I think the 10 windows were between $7,000 and $8,000.). The Smart Coat is expensive... but I hate painting so we splurged for it. The windows were installed about 5 weeks after our meeting with Mel. The installers were professional and friendly. We had 3 windows in the kitchen that required removal of siding. The installers removed the siding and replaced the wood with cheaper wood than I would have used, but he did a good job. They did not paint it then. A couple weeks later the painters came and applied the Smart Coat. It took them almost 4 days to do it. A day and a half of prep, day of priming, day of painting the green. The painters were sub-contracted but the window installers were not. The windows look good and work well. Once the paint was on the "inexpensive" siding on the kitchen windows, it looked good. The painters did well, too. There were a reasonable number of touch-up spots I had to help them find, but they fixed it quickly and with a good attitude. There were a few old paint flakes and wood chips that the contracotrs missed on clean-up, but nothing to the point of an inconenience for me. Everyone that came to our home was friendly, professional, and competent. I don't mind that we had to pay a small premium for the service. GOOD JOB!"

"It all ended well - AHS decided to replace the furnace (19 years old) instead of the pricey part. It was a long process, though, during the hottest part of the summer. Communication between AHS and the vendor was not good. The vendor and I were both calling daily for status, having to wait on hold for 20-40 minutes before getting a person. However, the people we spoke to at AHS were very friendly and helpful. Call backs were non-existent, though, which would have been more of an issue if results were not seen. I am just grateful the 3 weeks without the furnace was during the uncomfortable summer as opposed to the bitter cold winter. Bottom line is - it got done, but it was long and drawn out. At this point we've gotten more out of the program than we put in, but I am thinking the inconvenience isn't worth the difference. The cost of service below is only for the service call - our annual AHS is about $1800."

"Roger came to my home to provide an estimate. He arrived promptly. He was professional, very pleasant, and easy to talk to. I showed him the work I needed to have done. He measured the rooms for flooring. He spent time talking with me about some other issues I had with my house and offered some good ideas. I don't think he completely understood my vision for a change in the layout of the shower in the master bath but I would have revisited that topic with him prior to hiring him. I was concerned about a possible cat "accident" ruining new floors and Roger had a great idea to have the planks stained and sealed on site. This would help prevent moisture from getting in between the planks. Roger provided an estimate with moderate details. His estimate was about what I expected and in line with my budget. He called to follow up with me on the estimate. I wasn't home at the time and he left a message. I always appreciate it when a service provider checks back. It makes me feel like they want my business. I give him an A+ for doing that. I liked Roger. A minor health issue come up in my family and I decided to table the project for the time being.
