"Very thorough preparation--removal of prior driveway, substantial excavation to permit required base of crushed stone and sand, concrete footings around perimeter of driveway to stabilize edges of paver driveway. Very nice work setting pavers, setting trim pavers on edges, trimming pavers to fit where driveway wasn't square, and applying polymeric sand to seal joints."

"From start to finish, this felt like a partnership. SBC - and everyone they sent to do work - was fantastic. The designer listened and had great ideas, the masonry was beautiful, electric and plumbing were solutions oriented and I actually had fun selecting appliances. The final outdoor kitchen far exceeded our expectations and we are already trying to think of our next project with SBC."

"They covered our entire 1/2 acre property which a few years back was the runner-up in the Baltimore Sun's best gardens review. Edged and cleared out all of our beds, spread 10 yards of mulch, and rebuilt a 70 yard long french drain. Our neighbors commented "It's looks like something you see in a magazine." We agree! Amazing team -- so polite, attention to detail, and hard working. Love these guys!"

"Jeff and his crew (Lusbin, Marvin, and Juan) were a pleasure to deal with and delivered impeccable service. Jeff is very interested in listening to your plans and willing to provide some options with creativity and professionalism. He's also happy to provide pricing guidance for ideas and works with you to meet your budget and design needs. We met with a half dozen hardscapers and every single one seemed to miss something (one forgot to include installation in the quote!). Jeff is detail oriented and sticks by what he builds. Lusbin, Marvin, and Juan are unstoppable and worked right through the dog days of summer. Jeff was also onsite nearly every day checking the site and progress. Example of his attention to detail: Due to a column from the deck we needed to expand the patio by about 6 inches (replacing some river stone). Honestly had he pointed it out, as they were working on it, we never would have noticed. His price was right in line with other quotes and we felt confident there were no hidden costs or surprises. A pleasure to deal with and we love our new back yard! We recommend him to friends, family, neighbors, and to you."

"James Moylen and his team are skilled and knowledgable and understand well that the customer comes first. I chose Design Builders over two other contractors because James listened more carefully than the others to both our hopes and fears, and specifically addressed each and every one in the design and throughout the construction. He and his workers were courteous, cleaned up the worksite every day, and most importantly, did a top quality job on every aspect of the work. Yes, there were small glitches along the way, but James maintained very close communication with me throughout and took every step possible to keep me a fully informed and satisfied customer. I highly recommend his company and would not hesitate to work with them again."

"Fantastic!!!! Last summer, Mark put in a gorgeous new paver patio and fire pit in our backyard (which we LOVE), and we added a custom shed as an art studio and laid out a path--but, our efforts were not very professional and we ran out of stones before the studio. The walkway wasn't flat, so it was hazardous to walk on. I had Mark come out to talk to me about redoing it, and his vision was SO much better than mine! (Apparently the stones we used, which were left over from tearing out the original patio, were for walls, not walkways.) Then, I remembered that the front walk was even MORE of a hazard, since there was a 2" drop from the driveway and tree roots had heaved up part of it. I was worried that my 93-year old mother-in-law--or the mail carrier--would trip and hurt themselves. So, we did both. Now the winding back walkway is a beautiful ribbon of horizontal red paver edging with flagstones in the middle and dark grey pebbles in between. It's flat, safe to walk on, and looks like something out of a fairytale. For the front walk, Mark's crew (who always seem to be laughing) pulled up concrete pavers along the entire driveway, broke up the front sidewalk and stoop with sledgehammers, and then miraculously managed to connect the new, basketweave pavers with the previous garden walkways we had done ourselves, AND with the driveway, with no obvious slope. The whole thing is now flat, safe, and looks fantastic. I would hire Mark's company again in a minute if I needed anything else done. Mark is nice, fun to work with, and I'm always amazed at how quickly they can transform a space. A+++++!"

FAQs for outdoor kitchen building service projects in Galesville, MD

Building your own pizza oven can be a cost-effective option if you already possess the necessary firebricks or materials and have the skills to complete the project. When you have the required supplies on hand, you save on material costs and labor fees. However, if you need to source every component, a pre-made kit may not deliver the same savings.

Fire bricks are engineered to withstand the high temperatures generated inside a pizza oven, protecting the structure from cracking or spalling. Standard bricks can fail under intense heat, potentially damaging the oven and creating safety risks. By using true fire-rated bricks, homeowners maintain consistent cooking temperatures, preserve the oven’s structural integrity, and reduce the likelihood of costly repairs. The modest increase in material cost is offset by longer service life and safer operation.

An optimal pizza oven installation positions the opening exactly between 36 and 48 inches above the ground to guarantee clear visibility and safe, comfortable access. This height optimizes heat distribution and ergonomic use. In addition, dome height can vary: shorter domes produce the signature soft, charred crust of Neapolitan pies, whereas taller domes are ideal for generating the robust baking environment required for New York–style pizzas.
