"Finishing Touch Landscaping exceeded all my expectations! Our property had a problem of water runoff causing serious soil erosion that required some excavation, installation of an extended drainage system, installation of railroad ties, topsoil and regrading. The cost estimate was very competitive with other local landscapers and all work was done in a very professional manner. Frank Davis is more than just a landscaper; he is an experienced problem-solver and came up with suggestions that added value to the project without exceeding the budget. He has experienced workmen and makes it his business to supervise the project in person."

"FYI, There is a fee to set the traps. Then there is a fee each time they pickup the traps. They ask how many you think they need to set. They leave them until you tell them to pick them up."

"The project went very well I have been a long term customer, Everything as always is great! Their Lawncare division is always professional they call you beforehand to let you know. This summer I had a large project done by them and the Landscaping division is just great. They removed a patio, and tie wall then installed a new trash pad, installed a new Belgard paver patio on top of the wall they installed. Everything went smooth except they found drainage pipes under the concrete so that had to be pulled up and new stuff put in. That was extra but other than that clean-up was great and the guys were always professional and in uniforms every day."

"The entire experience with Josh Dunn and his team went extremely well. I had another contractor over to look at the space, and his estimate was 30k, he really had no good ideas for what to do with the originally awkward layout, and he advised that I should move my two kids (ages 1 and 4) out of the upstairs during the remodel. Josh walked in and immediately envisioned what to do with the space and came in with a lower estimate. He and Mike worked meticulously, controlled dust, and cleaned up every afternoon before they left. They did any and all sawing and tile-cutting outside. My baby took naps in the basement, but both my kids slept at night in their own beds in their rooms, and I never worried about dust. Josh and Mike are polite and professional, keep you informed of the process, and are also very good at what they do. No drywall seam is visible, no tile is crooked, and the paint job is extremely clean. Our remodel was extensive enough that we needed city (Richmond Heights) permits, and that required that separate electricians and plumbers do that work and that everything (electrical, plumbing, building) be inspected two times. All of that slowed things down, but Josh and Mike communicated so well and kept everything so neat that I had no complaints. They also subcontracted out to workers who were as nice and professional as they are. I will have Dunn Home Improvements do any home remodeling project, large or small, that arises in the future."

"I originally called Al back in July to do some work on a rental property.  He arrived promptly at the appointed time and provided good, on the spot feedback for the various tasks that needed to be done.  He handled communicating directly with my tenants to gain access to the property and ultimately completed all of the work to everyone's satisfaction.  One of the things that really impressed me was his professional manner and willingness to invoice for the work after completion.  I have never met a contractor that doesn't seem needy for up front cash.  It conveys confidence in the work he performs that he bills in this way.
I hired Al to take on a more difficult project more recently at my home.  My 60 year old garage was leaning pretty badly to one side and had a completely non-functional entry door.  He took a look and gave me a price on the spot for straightening the garage and doing the necessary bracing to make sure it wouldn't lean right back.  Now, Al could have just done the job as normal and I would have been happy.  However, he really went the extra mile by installing gutter guards, power washing the garage roof and floor and making recommendations for other improvements.  To give you an idea of how dedicated he is, I got home last night at about 6 PM while it was pouring down rain to find him finishing up the power washing of the floor.
I would recommend Al to anyone looking for a great, honest and competent handyman.

"We have a chimney that spreads from ground to roof and the house is on a hillside. The guys clearly knew what they were doing, were polite and responsive to questions and requests that my wife and I had, and didn't leave even a tiny mess. Chimney looks great! From bid to job completion, everyone was courteous and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Andre's to my family and friends.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Glencoe, MO

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
