"excellent communications with customer and excellent job of keeping appointments when promised. Very pleasant, diligent and earnest technician. My one issue is that their fees are just too high. They charge a high minimum just to show up, and then if they do work, there is no "blending" or credit given in the fee for service. Thus, you pay a high amount just for them to show up whether they do anything or not, then a minimum service fee that is relatively high. If you have a problem that is easy for them to solve and doesn't require any components o0r materials or time, you still end up paying more than $300 for them to address your small problem. In all other respects, they are great, but they are not a good value."

"Very well. I felt Craig was very professional and very knowledgeable. I think the previous company did me a favor when I was told they couldn’t service my boiler any longer"

"Josh installed a new water heater, provided us with instructions on proper use and maintenance and has serviced it since. He is honest, thorough, and trustworthy. He also maintains my dad’s HVAC needs too. He has come out for emergency calls too. Suggest things to prevent future additional repair expenses. His prices are reasonable, especially for the personal, friendly customer service and service provided. I would highly recommend Northwoods HVAC."

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

"Zach and Macky were great! I called the day before, received a call back that night and they were here first thing the next morning- just about a 12 hour service time! Being a single, female, first time homeowner, I was unsure what to expect and they were both great at explaining the jobs and each piece going into the repair. Highly recommend and will be using them again!"

"It is snowing out, blustery and for the first time ever every nook and cranny of my home is toasty. That is because Johnson & Hayes installed a Mitsubishi Hyper Heat Pump for me. Whalla! There is a kindness and caring that comes through from this team. They take pride in careful, competent installation. They offered the best quote I could find and that mattered to me. They did the work of getting my rebate dollars, facilitated everything to perfection. Unlike a large company in Brunswick, the owners took time to find out what I wanted and how I wanted it. Without middlemen, I got the best competence possible. I am SO grateful to both Tom Hayes and Stephen Johnson for what they did to make me so cozy, comfortable and truly safe in my old age. And with low overhead, they made it so I didn't break the bank to get this great, quiet machine in my home. Thank you!!! Nola Denslow"

"I converted from Propane to natural gas. Iâ m happy I hired this company. They are now my furnaceâ s best friend. It took a few days to get it hooked up, not because of the contractor but because of Unitil. Iâ m very pleased with how they handled Unitil, kept me updated of what was happening thru text and phone calls. Professional and the absolute best contractor Iâ ve ever dealt with. So yes definitely hire this one. 10 stars"

FAQs for central a/c service or repair projects in Hiram, ME

Coils work to absorb heat into the refrigerant that flows through them, moving heat from one location to another. For air conditioning, the evaporator coil inside the air handler in your home absorbs heat. It then transfers the heat outside to the condenser coil, where it releases it. The opposite process happens for heat pumps. When the coils get dusty and dirty, it reduces how well these components work.

Skip regular cleanings, and dirt, debris, and mineral deposits will blanket your evaporator and condenser coils. When that happens, the coils can’t shed heat efficiently, so the system works harder and your energy bill climbs. Over time, overheating strains the compressor and can trigger a full breakdown—an avoidable repair that often costs far more than a simple annual cleaning.

AC coil cleaning is an investment that pays for itself in the benefits it provides. Dust‑caked coils force your AC to run longer, so you spend more on electricity and rack up extra wear. A quick professional cleaning restores efficiency, trims monthly bills, and eases strain on expensive parts. Over the long haul, that small yearly fee delays pricy repairs and stretches the unit’s lifespan, making coil cleaning one of the smartest HVAC tune‑ups you can schedule.

Watch for higher electric bills, rooms that stay warm no matter how low you set the thermostat, or an AC system that runs nonstop. Extra humidity and frost on the coils are also red flags. Catching these clues early lets you schedule a quick cleaning before the system overworks itself and triggers an expensive breakdown.

Your AC cleaning technician starts by shutting off the power to the unit and removing the faceplate. Compressed air and a vacuum hose blast away loose debris, followed by a coil-safe, no-rinse cleaner that dissolves stubborn grime. After the solution has soaked in, the professional wipes the fins, reassembles the housing, and restores power, leaving the system ready to cool at peak efficiency.
