"Very pleased. I had drainage issues with water pooling at the foundation of my new (1973) home which sits on .68 acre. David recommended a good gutter company (Leaves Out/Etowah) for cleaning and installation of guards prior to beginning drainage work. He explained mice eat through black corrugated drain pipe (which was not buried as it should have been) and recommended narrower white plastic piping properly diverted to street. His crew added soil/mulch and graded it away from the foundation to improve water flow to the street. David showed me where house footings were showing in one area and recommended building up the soil and grading properly. After David's drainage work was completed, I had my crawl space encapsulated. Conservation Pros wanted the drainage work completed prior to beginning work in the crawlspace. I explained what VanWyck did; he was impressed by the level of detail; stating they know what they're doing. Van Wyck also trimmed and limbed up trees, removed dead shrubbery, etc. Everything looks so much nicer now. They seeded and placed straw in areas where new pipe was laid and the grass is coming in nicely. In the fall, David will re-locate several shrubs and small trees for better performance and growth. He'll fill in bare areas with new and appropriate plant material, then add fluffy (composted) soil and mulch over. I plan to use David's services for hardscaping/paver work in the next year or so as I'm impressed by the hardscape photos on his website. He's very knowledgeable and well educated in his craft with a good eye for design. David does things the right way and his horticultural knowledge is solid. Right plant, right place. I had a difficult time finding someone I felt I could trust to give me a good value and do top notch work (I'm new to the area). Very fortunate to have found VanWyck LanDesign. Job well done!"

"Very nice.  Very informative.  But, the price is per square feet, and if you go over, which we did, it is much more.  He did reduce it a little, which was very nice.  I learned how to do the counters myself though.  And that was great! <br />"

"Mr. Dice is a consummate professional. He provided me a free quote for services. We then scheduled the start date of the project. Mr. Dice arrived promptly at our scheduled time. The work was completed in an extremely timely manner. He and his worker were respectful, and thoroughly cleaned up the job site. I was thrilled with my new metal roof!!! It added a great deal of curb appeal to my home. I am extremely satisfied with the job performance and quite honestly was very impressed with his work ethic!!! It seems almost a rarity in my past experiences anyway to have someone show up on time and do a satisfactory job. Mr. Dice is a humble honest man and I without any reservation would highly recommend C&H Roofing!!!!"

"<p>Cecil responded quickly after I contacted him, came over to review the work needed, provided his estimate, and performed the work quickly.  I had just moved into an older house, and wanted the electrical work completed before I brought in painter, insulation contractors, etc..  As we discussed the work, Cecil made several suggestions to reduce cost and difficulties, and improve results.  In the end, the work included:  </p> <p>replace existing ceiling light fixtures throughout the house (I bought the lights in the living space and front porch, he bought the lights in the basement, closets, and stairs), <br /> <br />upgrade two prong outlets to grounded outlets throughout the house<br /> <br />add new lights in the kitchen, basement, stairs, and several closets<br /> <br />installed a doorbell and two hard wired carbon monoxide/smoke detectors<br /> <br />provided and installed a whole-house surge protector<br /> <br />install a new outside outlet in back</p> <p>Cecil was great at explaining what he was doing, and why he recommended changes.  He was here when he said he would be, did the work quickly and professionally, while also being very friendly and helpful.  I called him early this year for additional work (replacing the electric main panel), and will ask him to do more work.</p> <p>Why didn't I provide this rating sooner?  Back in January, I didn't see the option to rate a new contractor on the ratings page.</p> <br />"

FAQs for outdoor kitchen building service projects in Horse Shoe, NC

Building your own pizza oven can be a cost-effective option if you already possess the necessary firebricks or materials and have the skills to complete the project. When you have the required supplies on hand, you save on material costs and labor fees. However, if you need to source every component, a pre-made kit may not deliver the same savings.

Fire bricks are engineered to withstand the high temperatures generated inside a pizza oven, protecting the structure from cracking or spalling. Standard bricks can fail under intense heat, potentially damaging the oven and creating safety risks. By using true fire-rated bricks, homeowners maintain consistent cooking temperatures, preserve the oven’s structural integrity, and reduce the likelihood of costly repairs. The modest increase in material cost is offset by longer service life and safer operation.

An optimal pizza oven installation positions the opening exactly between 36 and 48 inches above the ground to guarantee clear visibility and safe, comfortable access. This height optimizes heat distribution and ergonomic use. In addition, dome height can vary: shorter domes produce the signature soft, charred crust of Neapolitan pies, whereas taller domes are ideal for generating the robust baking environment required for New York–style pizzas.
