"Our downstairs bedroom and bathroom were freezing cold. A BSI insulation engineer came in to size up the problem and provide a solution. They insulated the basement and crawl space of our 1893 Plantation home and now our said rooms are warm and inviting. We are so grateful to them and will save a ton of money in heating costs in the years to come. So happy and so grateful. What a great company."

"I reached out them about a year ago to look at my basement. I needed help with an old existing waterproof system a different company had installed and also to have someone look at the foundation. Marty informed us that our old waterproof system was an open system and that we might have radon coming through it. Sure enough he was correct! We hired a radon specialist and he was able to install a mitigation system. Marty also inspected our walls and advised that our foundation is fine and we did not need anything done at this time. Other companies tried to sell us $10k+ worth of work. I appreciate his honesty and not just trying to sell us something that we didn't need."

"They installed 68 "sister" joists and new sill plates while leveling everything. The drainage system consisted of a new pit and sump pump, a trench around the perimeter with perforated pipe covered with rock and then a vapor barrier over the entire area."

"Joel and his partners were very professional and easy to work with. We were impressed that they are engineers not plumbers. We would highly recommend this trenchless relining process as an alternative to anyone contemplating the replacement of a sewer line."

"Jeff Hoffman arrive exactly when he said he would. Rita who answers the phone there made special arrangements to work with my schedule. While he was here to quote running the gas line , I asked about how to shut off the water to the house. Single mom here and thought I should know that. He tracked down the shut off and showed me how to access it if needed. I then asked about getting a quote on sump pump and a garbage disposal. He looked at the disposal said he thought it was just stuck. Got a tool from his truck and fixed it in less than five minutes at no charge! He could have easily sold me a new one. The people at Hoffman Plumbing are truly good people doing honest work. I would not hesitate to recommend them. <br />"

"No other outlets in the home were experiencing water flow issues. We had attempted to replace the cartridge valve ourselves, which resulted in a stripped out set screw in the shower handle. So, the first thing he had to do was clean up our mess. Upon investigation, the valve wasn't the problem, the problem was with parts that could only be accessed by cutting a hole in the wall in the adjacent room. He had to create an access panel in the wall. The technician was patient throughout the trouble shooting and repair process, and he replaced our existing plumbing with upgraded materials. <br />"

"The job went very well. They harvested old brick from the attic chimney (which was about to fall), carefully cut and removed layers of old plaster, making a minimal repair hole, and then rebuilt the chimney in the upstairs bedroom. They repeated the process in the kitchen below, taking out only the plaster necessary and rebuilding that, as well, with the original bricks from the attic. Charley and Mike left clean, straight openings for new drywall, and only what was necessary. Then the guys finished in the basement, tuckpointing and stabilizing this four-story interior chimney. They protected floors and cleaned up, too. All three men--Charley, Mike, and Harry, were professional, polite, and knowledgeable."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Huron, IN

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
