"OUTSTANDING! Chad and his crew are absolutely first class. They are prompt, professional, honest, hard working, clean and the quality of their work is second to none. I have utilized many contractors throughout the past and without a doubt Chad is the best I have worked with. Chad created a laundry room and installed a complicated laundry chute for us and worked with us to blend it in to a piece of antique furniture. Chad and his crew took the time to clean up each day after they finished and left the house as clean as when they arrived. Chad is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Chad brought the project in under his estimate (which was priced fair to start with) and in the amount of time promised. I WILL use Chad Henry again in the future and have recommended him to my son for a remodel that he is planning. I highly recommend Chad Henry Construction for your home repair / remodel needs."

"Very well! Nathan and his crew were always on time, had attention to detail and had good skills, which included all of the many aspects of remodeling that are needed. They paid close attention to what I wanted and were accommodating to any changes or additions I requested. They were always diligent to clean up after themselves and stayed focused to my project only; therefore, finishing on a timely manner. Lastly, they were a lot of fun and good humored. I would gladly hire them again!"

"Perfect. I enjoyed getting to sit in the storm shelters at their showroom to help with size selection. After signing up for the install, they connect you to an online portal to manage the contract and to update building permit number, etc. Installation was prompt and clean."

"The gentleman I spoke with was both professional and considerate. He said that distance was not a problem but that he was in the middle of a project and wouldn't be able to come until it was finished.  He said he realized I would probably want it done ASAP, but that if I could not find anyone else to call him back.   I was able to get someone else, but I was pleased with his courtesy and would certainly consider calling him in the future. <br />"

"I had called Mr. Bunche several months ago about replacing the thresholds and repainting, which were not pressing matters.  We had trouble finding a mutally convenient time for the work to be done.  Then a storm damaged a door near my garage, separating the wooden door from from the building and creating a gap. Much cold air was coming in the house and I needed it fixed as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> I had asked two other contractors to look at the storm door earlier because it didn't close properly and both said the hinges were damaged and there was nothing to do except replace the door.  Mr. Bunch had to repalr the doorframe and then rehung the door.  He suggested adding a spring and chain to prevent another storm from catching the door.  The mortar arouind the door had also been damaged and he repaired that as well.  Long story short, this door works better than it ever has-- better than when it was first installed.  <br /> <br /> I am very pleased with the results and with Mr. Bunche's professionalism.  He came when he promised and worked steadily.  Clean-up was very well done."

FAQs for garage building service projects in Johnson City, TN

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
