"Jerrod the owner of Archstone was emphatic to point out that he is one of the best if not the best and a very conscientious and honest man. He said the mortar on exterior house wall is very hard and can't be ground out. Per his expert advise the best things is pressure wash and scrape out loose and damaged mortar and use sponging technique to fill in cavities with type S mortar. I understood and agreed asking for care with pressure washer. Quote was $2922 before tax. He said the wall wouldn't look much better than it does now but he would get all the places having egregious deterioration and then seal. Two days work. Moving forward his team (him and a 18 year old nephew) came and went in less than 4 hours. Sealant remained to be done and I could see that cost was itemized at $400. I personally could do it in 1/2 hour so I asked him to scratch it from the price. He was very amenable to that. The issue arose when I was sealing I found and sent him photos of spots with severe erosion that were missed and should take about 1 hour to fix. Some on wall, one in bottom corner of house, one big seam in windowsill. I sent email and photos asking for him to return. He didn't reply. 1 week later I reached him by phone and he said he didn't get the email/or hadn't read it yet but he wasn't going to come back for 'pinholes' which I could do myself. First of all I could do everything myself but that's time that I paid him for. He is too busy to come. Photos are from the south wall as discussed."

"Scott provided a good quote that described the work to be done with accurate pricing. This included: demo of the existing structure, disposal of the old decking and footings, installation of new footings, framing, Azek decking with a picture-frame border, and aluminum picket railing. During demolition of the decking, Scott discovered some dry-rot on the siding (where the previous deck hadn't had **any** flashing installed). He was able to add the demo and replacement of that siding with new pre-primed siding (we opted to paint it ourselves) as a separate quote at a per-hour amount with an estimate for hours and materials. The final product is excellent and my family is loving being out on our deck and enjoying our backyard! The only issues we ran into were in regard to communication and scheduling. Scott did a good job of communicating the plan when he was on-site or had finished up a stage in the project, but he did not do a good job of keeping us in the loop when schedules changed or there were delays. We also were the ones that needed to initiate contact after the schedule had gone off-track and find out when the next stage was going to begin. I would've appreciated (and would ask for) a more concrete schedule for the project laid out at the beginning and updates over time if that schedule needed to adjust. (Note: The railing was a known time-delay in the process and Scott did a good job communicating that it would be 3-4 weeks after construction of the deck was complete before the railing was finished being fabricated and installed.) Generally he was responsive on the first text/email, but the follow-through to finish the conversation and answer all questions wasn't always there. All said, Scott did a great job with the work we hired him to do and the deck is fabulous. It might've taken longer than originally hoped and with a few more bumps in the road, but as I said above, we're very happy with the end result."

"My driveway concrete aggregate was flaking off badly. What should I do: resurface, new concrete, pavers? I looked at all options and decided on pavers. Not much more expensive than a concrete repour, pavers would definitely be an upgrade from the aggregate driveway. July 2019 I hired CD Pavers to replace my driveway. It required only 3 days. CD Pavers representative explained both the process and the product employed in my project with actual samples, pictures and brochures. I made an unannounced visit to a large paving project in Shoreline and visited with the workers at the site. I shook hands and took a couple of cellphone photos. That’s when I decided this was my company. The pleasant surprise was how affordable the project would be compared to estimates I received from other companies. And, they had a nontransferable lifetime guarantee of their work. I also opted for the sealant spray of the new pavers and existing aggregate concrete surfaces. What I liked about CD Pavers: 1. PREP for job: Complete explanation of the scope of work and materials to be used was provided before contract signed. The contractor obtained underground utility mapping to protect lines running under and near the driveway. 2. DEMOLITION: The old driveway was removed, and construction debris hauled off on first day. Safety markings were placed at the sidewalk. 3. PAVER INSTALL: ground leveled, plastic ground cover followed by pea gravel and sand; compaction equipment used on those layers. Pavers placed in one day including sand “grout” vibrated into the gaps between pavers. Mindful of off driveway water drainage. 4. ADDED TOUCH: graciously placed a boarder along entry walkway at no additional charge. 5. HOMEOWNER CARE: Protected driveway apron, roadway asphalt, sidewalk from damage and soilage by construction equipment. Replaced a sprinkler head accidently broken during paver work. Cleanup complete and unused paver product stacked neatly in side-yard for the homeowner. Carey, the owner of CD Pavers visited the project site and inquired how everything was going with the project. He wanted to make sure I was happy with all aspects of the work to date, and wanted to hear if I had any concerns. Would I employ CD pavers for more paver projects at my home? Absolutely yes. I was impressed by the quality of the work, concern and respectful interaction with the homeowner, and affordability of the job. They do excellent work."

"We are extremely pleased with the quality of work Seth provided for our front entry make-over. He provided five-star service, from design and material selection, to installation and cleanup. Seth provides excellent communion, time management, experience, and creativity. The project was completed a day earlier than the proposed completion date, and the finished tile and ledge stone steps are even more beautiful than we had envisioned. Seth is an exceptional contractor. We would hire him for any future stone masonry projects."

"My 1942 house is brick clad, had a "handy" former owner, and has settled a bit so jobs require both technical and problem-solving skills.  This was a redo of confused work on a replacement window install started by previous person. First, the scheduler was informative and accommodating and got me on their busy schedule in time for painters.  Next, the owner came out, measured, discussed, and gave me a shopping list which I asked for.  He also told me how he'd approach my next project (jacking an uneven deck to match adjacent one so both can be waterproofed).  Kevin arrived equipped and ontime and got right to work, frequently checking with me about placement, preferences, and to discuss possible solutions he came up with as problems arose.  He was focused, efficient, accurate and done by the end of the day.  He didn't try to complicate or expand the job as others have done recently and completed the job that day.   Re-Done Green offers great service and value and I will hire them again soon."

"David came out right away to give an estimate and I had the estimate the following day. He was very personable and made sure to tell us a little about himself, his company, and his coworker Zach. We compared estimates and decided to go with David with scheduled work starting on July 28. <br /> David, Zach, and Todd showed up July 28 around 8am. I was told that they had another job that they needed to finish up so Todd would be there all day and David/Zach would be back later.  I ran them through some of the additional work requests that were not included in the original estimate(re-tiling patch in shower, several more patches from the plumbers, baseboard). Received an estimate later that day and they even worked with us by using some left over materials from a previous  job to help lower the cost.  <br /> We stopped by mostly every day, and at least one person was there anywhere between 7-8am and 6-7pm to get things done. There was a miscommunication early on regarding when they would be finished (initially was Thursday, then got pushed back to Saturday), but was able to reschedule all my other contractors so ended up not being a problem.  They also made sure to tell us of any issues they came across (downstairs drywall was pretty affected by the asbestos removal so gave options of just replace whole thing or fix). Really great about giving us quotes right away and not altering that figure after the fact.  <br /> Overall, I think they all did a great job. They were all friendly and personable to talk to, took great care in protecting our floors, and kept us apprised of things as they went...all for a reasonable price.  <br /> Note: Asbestos ceiling removal is pretty intensive and to repair the ceiling after the fact is even more so. We had not planned on repainting, but in order to smooth out the corners between the ceiling and wall, the mud came down about 1 foot (vs a couple of inches). <br />"

"They came out and cleaned the chimney, but didn't bring the chimney cap part. Unfortunately, they took my old cap (so we have been without!!) and then left all the ashes from the cleaning in my yard for me to clean up. But they did spend a bunch of time writing up $5K estimate for "recommended repairs"."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Lake Stevens, WA

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
