He also pointed out that the system is not up to code and some extra work would be required. I asked if he would be able to do the new install and asked if he could do it sooner than later, as cold showers for days (even one more) would not be fun. He ended up coming back out same day - about 6pm - with all parts and the new unit. He stayed until 11pm! to get the job done. Kap is fantastic. The most important thing was he discovered a serious problem with the way my water heater was vented. The exhaust pipe had been cut wrong and glued together. It was ready to come apart and could have vented carbon monoxide into the basement. (We do have CO detectors but this is still scary) We had this water heater installed a couple of years ago by another well known local firm that I don't know if I can name here.
