"After several days of rain in Oxon Hill, MD and overgrown grass, my mowed lawn looks great. The fee quoted for regular lawn mowing was fair. I will use again. Thank you!"

"We had a patio installed in our backyard. We met Bill from Sharper Cut at a home improvement show in Upper Marlboro. He was very professional from the beginning and scheduled a follow up meeting for us to come out and meet with him on that day. Before we had the meeting, he came out to the property to take pictures and see the layout. We had previously had a drawing which we sent him ahead of time. When we met with him, he had prepared several different options for a patio, including landscape. He listened intently to what we wanted and implemented it, including the seating wall, pillars and lights. He was very patient, showed the designs, modified them based on our questions and requests, and explained things very clearly. When there was a delay with a stone that we originally chose for the patio, he had us choose another stone to our liking, without making any adjustments to the price. The crew that did the work, showed up timely and were extremely professional. They would have been completed on time but got delayed because of rain storms that soaked the yard. However, as soon as it dried up they came out and finished the project. We are extremely pleased with the patio and all of our neighbors that come and see it, absolutely love it. I have recommended him to several of my neighbors and would encourage anyone looking for quality work to be done for them to consider Sharper Cut. They are awesome!!!!"

"The company sent a person to review the work.  He promptly provided an estimate by email.  The company proposed to replace one broken flagstone and reset a few additional loose pieces.  In addition, they would repair some seams of mortar that had eroded.  Due to a variety of reasons, it turned out that I could not have the work done right away.  When I was ready a few months later, they scheduled the job within two days with no adjustment in price due to the delay on my part.  As it turned out, they had to replace and reset more flagstones than originally expected.  They did what was required at no increase in price in order to do a complete and quality job.  They cleaned the flagstonnes of residual mortar and cleaned up completely after the work was done.  The walkk and steps are fixed and look great.  I am very pleased by the work this company performed. <br />"

"I've used Premium for over a decade, basically for every major project in my yard. My first time contacting was based on a referral from a trusted friend back in early 2006. My wife and I were set to hold a wedding reception at our home and our back lawn was an absolute mess- huge mounds of dirt, buried debris, deep pitting and weeds galore. On short notice (our fault), Mark and his team were able to completely transform the yard, regrading and redistributing earth, adding a massive retaining wall, and laying sod before the big day. We've received dozens if not hundreds of compliments on our yard! We have subsequently used Premium to repair backhoe damage from a water company repair in our front yard (two separate times!) and again when a roofing contractor ran his dumptruck through our fence and got it stuck in our wet back lawn. They even redid our fence for us! Premium has left the yard looking better than ever each time they've been here. When I gave up on chemically killing a problematic locust stump, Premium knocked it out with a giant grinder and it never came back. I wish every company I deal with could perform as well as these guys! Zero complaints."

"Mairtin is a Stone artist. The job was to reface a brick fireplace with stone veneer and install an owner provided reclaimed wood mantel. Before choosing Mairtin, I interviewed a number of other local area Masons. What impressed me about Mairtin was his knowledge of masonry, his creative ideas for making the best out of the stone veneer, and his low pressure sales tactics. He was very professional and provided a proposal that was well within our budgeted plan. When he arrived to perform the work, he quickly tackled the project and you could see his skill and artistry immediately. He made our stone fireplace look fantastic. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a fine stone mason who will do whatever it takes to get the job right and to meet or exceed the owners expectations."

"Their work is top notch. It's a great value for the money you pay. I plan on using him again. The only downside is that because he has so much business if you want him for a small amount of time it's hard to schedule it in. They do quick work as well. The landscape work that he does is unbelievable. If you need patios, decks, retaining walls, or anything containing stone, he is great."

"It was great! Dave Kraft showed up on time for estimate, and came back again on a Saturday with stone samples. Work started as scheduled, and they came every day until the project was finished. They cleaned up everything when they were done and re-seeded a section of our lawn where they had parked equipment. The finished product is absolutely beautiful. We could not be more satisfied."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Leonardtown, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
