"They do great work! From puncutality to price, we will use no other company going forward. Since building a bedroom in our basement, we just had them back last week. We have/had a very small kitchen space in our typical 3 bedroom brick ranch in Chicago. We hired Pawel to remove the adjoining bedroom which we've converted into dining space. This included removal of two walls, reinforcement of two support beams, run electrical for canned lighting, install two other light fixtures, patch drywall and mend existing floors for a great flow. All was completed in a timely manner and of course, the finished product has exceeded our expectations.

"They were very helpful on advising on specifications. In general, I found roofers specifying roof replacement the cheapest way possible rather than what is most cost effective long-term. Once, I got multiple contractors matching on specs, GF was clearly cost competitive, particularly given no subcontractor usage. Actual install was smooth except for two things. It took more time than they budgeted for, but they handled that well and didn't try to ask for extra payment. Second, they discovered that the backing of the house's original aluminum siding was rotten when they were installing new flashing. Understandably, they didn't want to put it back up as is (which I can appreciate). Thankfully, they were able to provide a cost effective answer regarding new siding, as I didn't want to have to big that out with everything already torn up."

"Very good value for your money as compared to other contractors. My main issue is that they picked out a few finishes without our approval that did not align with our design concept that we had showed him. Then when we mentioned it, he said that we would need to re-buy the materials that we would want since the original ones were already purchased. He also finished about 85 or 90% of the project within his original time projection. That said, he didn’t finish the remaining 10 to 15% until several months later. All in all, they offer great value for the money. I would just say you as the client and project manager should just stay on top of the project and finishes and if you do, you’ll be in great hands with Harris. I would definitely hire Harris again for another project."

"On 9/11/14, I contacted Nombach via Angie's List and requested an estimate for some gutter work.  Nombach responded the next day with a phone call from sales rep Milton.  On 9/13/14, Milton called and we scheduled an appointment for 9/16.  So far so good.
On 9/16/14, Milton arrived to inspect and give estimate for the job.  He attempted to enter the second story flat roof via the eave's hatch but could not open it.  He stated that entry would have to be gained by using a 30-foot ladder to climb onto the flat roof to loosen it so that it could be removed for future access. Milton followed up on 9/18, and on 9/20 he called to let me know that he had not forgotten me and that another worker would be out on 9/20.  He was very professional and answered all questions I had.
 
Another worker named Felix arrived on 9/20 and attempted to pry the hatch loose unsuccessfully.  On 9/21/14, Felix arrived with a 40-foot ladder and attempted to remove the hatch. He was unable to because the sealant used to waterproof the roof and eave hatch performed by Nombach in 2005 had evidently melted during the summer months and had really sealed the hatch to the eave. He really tried but the hatch would not budge.  However, while on the roof, Felix inspected the roof and took photos for the sales rep Milton.  He was also professional and courteous.   
On 9/26/14, Milton returned and wrote up an estimate for $1435 for new commercial pre-pitched gutters and a new downspout which would be relocated to another side of the building for better draining.  Nombach would also fix the hatch so that it can be accessible in the future.  The price included a preferred customer discount, including a senior citizen discount.  Milton estimated that the work would be performed in about two weeks (week beginning 10/13/14).  Contract was written up and signed on 9/26/14.  
After promising to begin work on 10/13/14, I received another call that a work crew would be out on 10/20.  From 10/20 thru 10/22, the crew worked on the gutter, removing and repairing a new hatch and finally installing the downspout.  They were professional and courteous and worked swiftly.  I am pleased with the work performed, but in their haste to finish, they forgot to strap down the downspout.   A minor detail but needs to be done.  I called today, 10/23, and reported this to the office staff who promised to relay this to the work crew and/or Milton Baker.

"One way, and in our opinion, the best way to answer the question of "how did it go overall?" is to know that, in the end, we got exactly the product we signed up for, and that the quality of the workmanship was very high. Anybody that has experienced a major renovation understands that the best laid plans are often led astray, and our experience did have its share of hiccups, which cumulatively led to a project which broke through the anticipated time and money budgets. The reasons for this are manifold, but the big three were 1. surprises that were found when opening up the walls/floors of our old home 2. delays in getting the necessary blessings/permits from the various city departments and inspectors 3. growing pains of Idea +Build (we were one of, if not the first build project that the firm tackled.) Before expounding on those growing pains, we think it is important to re-emphasize that these are just that, growing pains, and we truly believe that future clients would probably have smoother sailing overall. Like we said, the final product is A quality. The problems that we had with the firm along the way ultimately had to do with breakdowns in communication, both between the 2 guys who at various points were heading up our renovation, and also, at points, between them and the various subcontractors. To their credit, when mistakes were made, they owned up to them and shared costs accordingly. Where we wish they had done a better job, and what future clients should firmly request, is to have one go to guy head up the project from start to finish. It will avoid a lot of miscommunication as the project proceeds. All in all, we have a house that clearly made the most of its space, in the style that we want, and with high quality workmanship."

"There was so much work to be done on the house and all of it was done with attention to detail. Fil  responded quickly to all calls and texts. We made changes along the way and Fil was very accommodating with all the changes. Each and every day the work area was completely cleaned up. We were informed daily about what was completed and what job would be started next. During the work we had to move in and Fil completed what we asked to have done before the move so we were able to have finished rooms while the rest of the work was completed. 
The cost was very reasonable. The work was done perfectly. I would use Thor Build again on any project. I will also recommend the company to anyone needing to have work done.
